Attached are pic's of my Jefferson nickel set '38-'61. I just completed filling the book out today. You might think the collection is average at best, but it's been a project for me for a while. I pulled everyone of these from circulation over the last 6 years. $24,146 worth of nickels later I have them all. Found the '43-D today to finish it off. There are some really nice in there. Particularly the 1940's S minted coins are nice. Tons of steps start to finish. Some still have excellent luster. Forgive the poor pics. Thanks for looking.
Very nice accomplishment! They would look even better in a Dansco or Whitman clear see through slide album.
Quite the accomplishment in this day and age.......I just about did it back in the sixties as a youth. Well done.
You pulled the 50 D from the wild? In over 50 years of collecting I've only known 1 pulled from change.
Sweet variety I have one in my Jeffersons variety collection ...how many known varieties are there for the 1943 P Jefferson nickel?
Now that is an accomplishment. I rarely get a nickel back in change, mostly quarters and cents followed by a dime or two. Or did you request them?
Combining a few responses... Yes, pulled the ‘50-D from circulation. It’s probably XF. I didn’t find any war nickel varieties but I did find a really nice 1954 S/D and several RPM’s. At $24,146 worth of nickels searched( over 13,000 rolls....) yes they we requested. Lots of rolls, bags and boxes of nickels. It’s amazing what you can find. Takes a ton of time but is quintessential coin collecting to me. Thanks.
My last count the 1943 P Jefferson nickel there were over 105 ddo, ddr, and RPM's varieties and the ODV-004. Plus there are more to be found.
Me too, and it is in my Whitman coin book. Some folks have all the luck. While I had not been searching thru rolls of nickels all that long, I was never so lucky as to find any of those early ones in the rolls I searched. My own 50 D is a pretty good looking coin, I'd have to say.
I’m not really the variety guy, I only collect the major varieties included in the registry sets. The only two I have for this date are the 1943/2-P NGC MS67 and the 1943-P “Doubled Eye” DDO NGC MS67 5FS.
I think your post shows the incredible versatility of the Jefferson Nickel series. While I have spent unholy sums assembling a high grade registry set, you have spent countless hours assembling the same set purely from circulation. So while the condition of my coins may be better than yours, your effort, patience, and dedication to the Jefferson Nickel series might be unsurpassable. Bravo to you sir!
