kinda guessed you'd <perk> on that since you are part Puerto Rican. (my EX. was from Santurce, P.R.) To be honest I'll have to research more myself. I just never seen a RED seal Funny back and that was the info on it when I bought it from the shop MANY years ago. I googled and found out it was to help with the Puerto Rican Economy back then.

From what I recall the red seal was originally issued to work as a stopgap measure for dollar bills during the Depression. However, by the time these notes were printed they were no longer needed, so they went into a vault for around twenty years. Then they were used in Puerto Rico from 1949. Here is the site I remembered this from.

Few people know now, up until 1934 Cuba didn’t issue its own currency, a brief attempt in 1905 failed. So they used US paper money - mostly Silver Certificates until 1934 when the US BEP printed the Cuban “Certificato de Plata” notes.

I sure want to get a super nice 65+ Red Seal Ace sometime, even the large sized 1923 is nice.

The 1934 $1 SC has a stand alone face design. It’s one of my favorites.
