Have a New Hampshire State quarter with no mint, no P or D shown, it was from circulation, a bit scratched, but does not look like it was modified. Is this unusual, or do coins often miss something in stamping? Worth anything?
Sir I found one too and it seems to be one of the most found grease filled die quarters around. I don't know what they are worth as I gave mine to a friend. Speedy
Welcome to the forum. As Speedy said, it is probably a "filled die" strike, resulting from grease or other foreign material getting into the die. Circulated state quarters are almost never worth more than 25¢, noticeable scratches reduces the numismatic value of any coin, and non-spectacular filled die errors seldom carry any premium. Bottom line recommendation - use it in a Coke machine.
Or keep it as part of an error collection with one that has the mint mark right next to it for comparison. -Bobby
I found one of these too. I took it to a local coin dealer, and he magnified it a whole lot, and terermined that it was scratched off, very carefully. Because with the naked eye, you coulnt see a scratch.
