I bought about 10 rolls of dimes from my local bank within the span of 1 week. The first time I went I seen the teller holding an NF String and Son wrapped dime roll and asked if I could have it. When I got home I noticed the dime showing on the top of the roll was a 2002. I was happy...until today. I went to my bank again today and asked for a few more. I get home and find..2 different dates on the ends of a roll!! So obviously the coins inside are not all the same date,,this upset me. I thought since they were wrapped in NF STring wrappers, that they would be uncirculated. Im guessing this is not the case. What should I do with these rolls? Are they circulated?
they are likely circulated coins. many banks have string and sons wrapped coins and not just the brand new coin, either. I say you should open them up, see if there's any you want, and spend the rest.
NF String and Son makes and sells coin wrapping machines and the paper they wrap the coins in. They have nothing to do with the actual wrapping of the coins sothere cn be ANYTHING in an NF String and Son roll.
Wow..I had no idea. Every NF String wrapped roll I purchased in the past has been uncirculated. So I guess the only way to get uncirculated dimes would be to buy a box? but I checked NF's website...and they sell boxes too! This leads me to believe there are many hustlers out there wrapping rolls in nf string wrappers, putting them in nf string boxes and selling them on auction sites. I admit Im new to collecting, but this really does shock me! Im sure theres many collectors out there that swear by nf string wrapped coins. Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention guys! I learn something new everyday on this forum There are trully some brillant collectors on here!
I bought a NF String box last week of cents. It had 8 more rolls of 2010 D new and the rest were all circulated rolls. The machines wrap whatever is put into them I guess and the boxes get mixed items too. I have seen entire boxes of uncirculated 2010 cents, but I know they don't all come that way. LOL
You should check out the NF string website. You can get the real bank rolls there, plus the end crimper too.
Found a very very wierd looking 2000 D dime with no reeded edges and a very odd roosevelt face. It almost looks fake? I also found a silver!
Boxes are also usually circulated. Congrats on the silver. And welcome to the obsession of roll searching.
HAHA..Ive been hooked on roll searching for a while now! Just not dime rolls..and still not, yet. The dollar rolls are cunsuming all my time...Im finding errors like crazy lately! Im concerned about this dime I found with a smooth edge.
It's called spooning. You take a spoon and hit the edge of the dime until it's smooth. Gives a weird look to them.
Spooning a dime right now....its definitley not spooned i dont see any copper in the edge? Thanks for the advice though...thats interesting!
Eh, might just be worn. I went through three boxes of dimes yesterday and saw plenty with smooth edges. Not particularly rare. Post some pics anyways.
the weirdest thing is I'm finding more silver dimes and quarters and pre-1983Pennies in the discard bin than when I buy whole cases! John in Garrett Hill PA Radnor Twp
All of my boxes of N.F. String from my bank are circulated, box sealed, etc. And there are people selling these boxes of circulated coins on ebay, but they should be advertising them properly. Instead they have descriptions that say " Find errors in these boxes". Stay away from these types of sellers.
I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT N.F STRING WAS MOSTLY UN CIRCULATED COINAGE.I JUST PURCHASED 3 ROLLS OF THE 2015-P HOMESTEAD ROLLS ON E-BAY AS THEY MAY CONTAIN THOSE GREAT DOUBLE DIES.NOW I THINK I JUST GOT THE SHAFT?AND I DID SPEND OVER $17.00 PER ROLL BECAUSE THE SELLER HAD A ERROR COIN ON ONE END.
