My new crab

Won, not in hand but I can't wait.


SICILY, Akragas. Circa 500-495 BC. AR Didrachm (19mm, 8.17 g, 7h). Sea eagle standing left / Crab within incuse circle. Jenkins, Gela, Group IIc; HGC 2, 93. Near VF, toned.

I love this type @H8_modern, but I do not have one. Someday when my rich uncle wills his money to me.

 

One of the earliest Akragas crab coinage and a beauty at that, congrats on a wonderful coin H8_modern, my earliest is about 420 BC, this Hemilitron.

 

Nice one, @H8_modern. One of those is on my list as well. My Akragas is a bronze, a tetras.

 

Nice crab coin, I've seen these before and have always thought about getting one. And just wait until Steve sees your thread, he's going to post all his stuff again.

Late 5th century BC
Diameter: 28 mm
Weight: 14.71 grams
Obverse: Eagle standing right, tearing at hare
Reverse: Crab; six pellets around, crayfish below; c/m: head of Herakles right, wearing lion’s skin, within circular incuse
Reference: For undertype: cf. HGC 2, 136; for c/m: CNS 107 CM
Other: 11h .... Coin Near VF, countermark VF, green patina. Well preserved undertype.

I just won this in their recent Auction 2 (you have seen it), but I won on 9-April and RECEIVED it yesterday, 13-April! SHOCKED how quickly it shipped and arrived from Deutschland! (Tracking showed that it was delivered to Fedex on 11-April, in my hands 13-April)...

They say its an eagle but its clearly a pigeon.
