    Is it possible that these Dimes all have a missing clad layer? 2023-3-13 3-34-31.jpg 2023-3-13 3-32-32.jpg IMG_20230313_033527.jpg 2023-3-13 3-33-25.jpg

No. They're merely discolored (environmental damage).

    None are Missing Clad Layer.
Usually it would be just 1 side missing of the clad planchet. As stated by Sal they are Cupro-Nickel clad with environmental toning damage.

Here are many examples of Clad coins and Nickels (Also Cupro-Nickel) from my metal detecting digs with environmental exposure just like all your dimes. :yack:

This is what a dime with an actual missing clad layer should look like.

Red-brown exposed (inner) copper core on one side, whitish original copper-nickel (outer) layer on the other.

Another thing. It's sad that there are people who actually list those environmentally toned coins on ebay and state that they are missing clad layer. Most of the time they are definitely not.

Here are some attributed Missing Clad Layer examples from my collection. They are usually just on one side. The label has the info. The other side is the normal clad color.

Just by looking at the coins how do I determine the difference in missing clad layers and environmental?

Ok. So what this means is when a coin is missing a clad layer it will most often be only one side of the coin?

I believe so, though I guess it's theoretically possible (if unlikely) for a coin to be missing both outer clad layers? That would of course result in, for example, a dime that's all copper- like the color of a cent- on both sides.

But if both of the outer layers were missing and only the copper core got struck, I think the resulting coin might come out somewhat weakly struck, since the coin would be pretty thin with only that inner layer of the "sandwich" there to receive the strike.

I've never seen one with more than one clad layer missing, so I'm guessing here. That's a question for the more seasoned error experts.

Usually with a missing clad layer, you're going to see something more like the dime I posted. Something with a dramatic color difference between the two sides, because two different metallic compositions are showing.

Afraid not. It’s just stained, dirty and damaged by the environment.

@Collecting Nut @Randy Abercrombie I'm going to try to post some pics and possibly a short video of the races today. We are supposed to have a good crowd Saturday. If anything catches my eye I will be sure to share. :)
