Hi all....I was given a 2 pound coin in change today and it was a 1707-2007 "Act of Union Tercentenary" coin. I googled it And saw that some had double rare minting errors that turned out to be an off centre silver part of the coin and upside down writing...as far as I can tell most of the Google images have this. Is it a con or are these worth more than face value?

    Any help is appreciated.

I can't upload a picture just yet it won't let me on my phone. I was kind of hoping somebody would know what I was on about. Do you use that picture often I presume?

Without seeing the coin we can't tell what is actually wrong if anything. If there are other coins know with this error can you link to a picture of one of those?

By googling all I have found are "error" listing for upside down edge lettering, which I do not believe is an error. the planchets are lettered first and enter the coining press at random with lettering up or down. Just like "upside down" edge lettering on our dollar coins isn't an error, it's normal. The other thing I have found are pieces where the center hole in the ring was very slightly offcenter so the silver colored center has part of the design that is supposed to be on the ring on it. That is an error but unless it is SIGNIFICANTLY off center, or if the center piece was not completely in the hole when it was struck, the value is relatively minor. I see pieces being offered for as high as 1,300 pounds, but the ones I see are probably worth more like 4 pounds at most. (There is one guy offering his for an opening bid of 5 pounds.)
