I sent off a 1941-S Mercury dime to ANACS because I was just sure that I had the large "s" (rare variety) mint mark. Alas, ANACS said it was the common small "s". (Which makes the AU-53 dime worth about $5). Does anyone know a link that shows a side-by-side comparison of the two mint marks?
Here is a comparison of 1945-S , I will check if I have the 1941S ones . No, I don't and I apologize for confusing the issue on your 1941 question. Jim
So far as I know, they used the same punch for all coins. thus the Lincoln cent will have the same mint marks as the other coin. Look here; http://www.lincolncentresource.com/San_Fransisco_Mintmark_Styles.html
1928-S-s I know for sure on the 1928-S the large mint mark is the rarest. from 1940 and on up till 45 I think it the small s that is the rarest. I would check my books but there all packed up were moving soon
Thank you all very much! This forum is a fountain of knowledge! I now have a beautifully encapsulated $5 coin. Not exactly cost effective, but on the bright side - it'll stay AU-53 for the next century or two! Thanks again for your help and the links.
