It appears the LP3 got distributed faster and in far greater quantities than the LP1 and LP2 did. It has only been 2 weeks since its release, and lots of people are getting them (see Bobbeth's post). Right now LP1 is the most scarce of the three issues. What does this mean for LP4? Will they make it the most scarce because of the large quantities of LP3 being dumped, and thus see no need to get it into circulation?
Sorry to confuse you Tater, I meant the circulating LP coinage, not mint boxes of LP's. Seems to be tons of LP3 circulating.
got ya. Don't know where you are from but here in my area of Utah its the LP2 that everyone is finding. It might be geographical depending on when your bank orders them from the feds.
I stop buying from US MINT after lp2 got 5 sets of them and on lp1 I was not to bright as only order 2 sets of them, way I see it US MINT will make as many sets of lp4 as they can sell to public, I just started to buy from the US MINT 1 year ago, And I think most of the stuff they sell is junk compare to other countries that seem to take pride in the way they make coins for people to collect, better in design and they take care in sending coins that are with out spots on them ect. Don't get me wrong I love this country good old USA.But the mint it seems don't care about QC on what they sell, they are just out there to make a buck on most of the stuff they sell.On one box of the LP2 that I pop open all the coins from those rolls all had spots on them, that's a lot for 100 coins all with spots.Does anyone that works at Mint look at coins as they are being made. to see if a problem before they are ship out, I can see on business strikes that are going out to the public for everyday use, but for us to to spend 8.95 for 100 coins that are so badly made, makes me see they don't care about the collectors.Sorry so long on this just had to vent out on this. carl
Indeed, the LP1 will prove to be the rarest of the four. The Mint has already established itself as a pimp with LP2.
Does anyone have the mintage figures for LP1, LP2? I just found two LP1's in a roll just now. One was XF at least. The other had scratches on the cabin, arrrrgh!
Love it. Words like Scarce, Rare being used for Zincoln cents. What are the mintages of these coins? I still say they are hyped priced. Has nothing to do with being rare or scarce.
Here's my 2009 pennies. I have bought them all because I knew they would be in BU condition. I have got a few in change, but they gave all been LP1 (The Log Cabin) I've gave them all but one away. If anyone needs/wants it, PM me and I will get it out to you free of charge. First come first serve. I have one only. This one is part of a P & D set. And here's the one from circulation.
The LP3 50 roll boxes are selling for under $100 2 weeks after release, that price wasn't seen by LP1 for at least 4 months, and I believe it took LP2 about 2 months to go under $100. Either the market is flooded, or no one cares. Which leads me to wonder if the mint may not release as many LP4 into circulation.
I didn't realize the LP1 was so rare in change...thats all I've been finding. Usually not a day goes by I don't get one now, but no 2 or 3's yet. Guy~
Please fellow coin enthusiasts be careful. The 1964 Kennedy Half back in 64 was hot and selling for $5 each 45 years ago.I remember Bicentennial coinage of 1976 tough to get too! Lets be common Zinc cents wise. THESE WILL NEVER EVER BE RARE!!!!! Those LP1 roll sets will DROP LIKE A ZINC/LEAD BALOON. The mint is a MONEY MAKING MACHINE. These days with a laptop computer anyone can crank out hundreds of designs per year.If you bought all the junk the mint cranks out most people would not have any money left over for food.LOL I am buying 1992-1998-s silver proof sets with my money.
I find alot of both LP1 and LP2 Denver mints here in rolls and change but haven't seen the first LP3 yet the don't have them and can't order them specificaly. One bank even said their Armored service didn't even order them they said they enough pennies to last for awhile. I do have two banks watching for a box of them as well as the 09 nickel and dime noone around here has seen those yet either.
I got my first one (LP3) last week... But, for me, exclusive of LP3, LP2 seems to be the hardest so far... I have seen tons of LP1! I have gotten two wrapped rolls of LP1 and the equivalent of 4 more rolls (in single coins) and have only gotten two wrapped rolls of LP2 and just just under two rolls of singles. PS I live in the San Diego area and get the "D"s here.
These ARE just the same regular business strikes that are going out to the public every day! They are coming off the same presses and dies, getting dumped into the same shaking riddlers, being dumped into the same ballistic bags, shipped to the same contractor for rolling them. The ONLY difference between the coin sent to the Fed and the coins sold in Mint rolls is the paper they load into the rolling machine. The press operators have NO idea if the coins they are striking are going to Mint rolls or to piggy banks. The Mint NEVER promised that these coins in the Mint rolls would be special in any way.
I like what BUBAGS is doing. Mint sets are plain downright beatiful coins. They might not appriciate in value that much but they will go up because of the limited mintage. LP1's -- LP4's will peter out after a year. IMHO Oh I forgot to add that I too need a set or two of LP1's but I'm willing to wait or trade for them. And there's no takers there, yet.
