Well I just got my second 1913-C sovereign, MS63 PCGS, I sold the first one a few weeks back. This is such a rare coin, I never dreamed I would have one, much less two! Mintage was 3,717 pieces, according to Michael A. Marsh in The Gold Sovereign. Only a handful appear at auction every year. I think I'm just gonna put this one back for a rainy day ... if this were a U.S. coin it would be ten times the price.

The sovereigns were introduced to replace the guinea in 1820, and seven different mints made them, in the days when the "sun never set on the British Empire" -- London, Perth, Melbourne, Syndey, Pretoria, Bombay, and Ottawa. (If I have any of this wrong I hope my British friends will correct me.)

So ... post your gold sovereigns, everybody!

Here are a few that I have. The 1925 is from South Africa and the 1908 is from Perth. Picked them up as bullion, pretty bullion that is, and more interesting to me than a modern US eagle or the like. Just my preference. Matt

So this isn't a gold sovereign, but it is apparently modeled after one. It appears to be a Half Farthing marked "Coronation Model". I didn't see it listed in my Krause Publication, and it has been a while since I looked it up online, but apparently, it is some sort of commemorative or maybe a hard times token or other sort of aftermarket maker. There are several variations known, but I just picked this piece up because I just love copper and it had an interesting die crack along the portraits head and I also thought it's small size made it interesting as well. That's all I know about it. I just put it on this thread hoping somebody else would like to see it. Matt

That's a nice one, and a nice photo! Did Todd Pollock photograph it?

No, that is my photo but I know Todd fairly well and I take it as a compliment to have my photos compared to his. Thank you.

I just bought what I'm hoping is a true 1906 Edward VII British Sovereign

The weight is correct, but what are the diameter and thickness supposed to be?
