1909 VDB Lincoln Wheat Ear Penny

My grandmother recently gave me a large wheat ear penny with the date 1909 printed to the right side of Lincoln's chest. When I use the term "large" I do not mean that it was minted before 1857. The penny literally has a diameter of three inches. It reads, "In God We Trust" on the face and on the back has the two wheat ears. The initials VDB are printed under the "ONE CENT" text and on the reverse side, the letter "S" is printed. The coin has an obvious line between the two faces where is seems it has been molded together. The coin is about 3/16th of an inch thick. Is this coin just a souvenir from the San Francisco Mint? How much is it worth? Are there any more coins like it?

Need pictures to tell. It is likely a reproduction, as VDB in 1909 was on the bottom rim. Does anything look weird?

I've got a couple 1877 IHC's that size, I've seen them sold at Cracker Barrel restaurants before and flea markets and such...

It is a novelty piece. I bought a few similar items at Cracker Barrel last year. They make good paperweights.

Our family has recently purchased farmland in souther Georgia. In clearing up an area to build a house, we have found lots of artifacts that would lead us to believe there was a house there in the 1930s and again in the mid 1970s (perhaps a mobile home on the same sights of a home that was there 40 years prior). No home is there now. Today I found a broken giant penny like the one described in the question above. It’s a big replica of a 1909 wheat penny. Does anyone know who issued it, why and when? My guess from the ages of other artifacts would be 1930s or 1970s.

They are just a novelty piece. They are still made today. There are several designs and sell for $2 to $3.

If it's that large it's a novelty item, not a coin and only worth a buck. Keep for prosperity as grandma gave it to you.

Very common and welcome to CT.

Thanks @paddyman98 , I will start looking from now on , I just assume these threads are new , not from 2011. How do these old threads keep popping up like this one. Is it just to fill up the question board or something ?? Weird Dillan

If someone asks a similar question that was discussed at an earlier date is it added to the thread to keep all the same info in the same place ?

I jus noticed this ,I seldom check the dates on the threads thinking they are something new. I will not be doing that anylonger. I got hooked like that once before . Why are the older threads posted again. Is this done by a member to further discussion ?
