The first Friday in November The UK Royal Mint added a well-deserving and beloved musical artist to the world of British proof commemorative coinage. Previous honorees, William Shakespeare, Winston Churchill, Charles Darwin, Florence Nightingale, along with others so-honored, welcome former Beatle, John Lennon, to their ever-growing ranks. The limited edition coin displays Lennon with long hair, sideburns and his trademark, round glasses. It will have a face value of 5 pounds ($8) but will be sold for £44.99. Only 5,000 will be offered for sale. For more about this coin, click the following link to The UK Royal Mint UK ROYAL MINT WEBSITE Clinker
The silver version, with the limit of 5,000 is already sold out. There is a cupro-nickel version available.
Did you guys hear about the album signed by John Lennon which is at auction for 500,000 Pounds? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...nnon-for-Mark-Chapman-on-sale-for-500000.html I read a similar story a couple weeks ago & I believe the last time it sold for something like US$ 880,000.
In November 2010, PBS' American Masters series began nationally airing a new documentary film, LENNONYC It's very well worth the time spent if you are interested in his later life. Here's an earlier CoinTalk thread on the Lennon coins: John Lennon coin Give peace a chance.
Thanks to all you who read this thread and moreso to all you who commented and added additional info and links relevant to the coin and John Lennon... Clinker

Mintage limited to 5000. Sold out quickly. Seems like half of them are now for sale at Ebay at rediculous prices. I bought two, and I'm hanging on to them.
Note that, strictly speaking, the coin has a face value of zero in the UK. That is a piece issued "by" Alderney. See http://www.cointalk.com/t139264/ ... Christian
