Is www.coastcoin.com reputable?

Hi, I recently got back into coin collecting, and I'm looking for a good place to buy coins. I wasn't able to find a local dealer, so I'm forced to use the Internet.

My question is, is www.coastcoin.com a good website? Their specials seem really good, but most of their coins are uncertified, and I can't help but think that most of them are overgraded. Has anyone here shopped through them before, and if I buy through them will I be getting ripped off?

I purchased coins from coast to coast a handfull of times several years ago.
Basically satisfied with the quality and condition of the coins, prices were in line with
other retail outlets. My rule is nothing over $100 for raw coins unless i can hold and examine in hand.

I've made many purchases from them over the years - never disatisfied...

All purchases from them carry their satisfaction guarantee. AND I like their S & H $5 er order fee...

I've heard mixed reports on these guys.....some say ok, others say cleaned and overgraded.

It really depends on what you want or are looking for. If you want high quality coins, forget about it.

If you don't mind getting cleaned coins, over-graded coins or just average circ coins, then yeah they are reputable. You will get the coins you order from them, they just may not match the description used for them.

I consider that a dangerous question. Sort of like asking who should I marry or what car should I buy. The problem here is if someone tells you they think that place is fantastic and you try them and get messed up, you'll blame them for saying that. Then too someone might just say they are great and never even tried them. Of course a member here may work there or even own the place so it's obvious what they would say. Then there is the opposite of all that. Someone says they are a bunch of crooks and you still try them and come out with some fantastic great deals.
I try not to ever recommend anyone or anything for anything. It's basically safe to do it on line since no one will come over and punch me in the nose if I'm wrong. Hopefully, that is. :D

I personally would not buy anything raw from either apmex or coast to coast coins. At least not with out good pictures. Again just my personal opinion.

I've only bought bullion from Apmex or Coast Coins... I've never had an issue with either up to this point.

Steer clear of coast to coast as they sell cleaned coins, and Ken pines the owner was kicked out of the ANA for his wrongdoing!

If that's true, then I think I have a piece of info I can make an informed decision with.

I've been tempted to buy from the dealers that advertise in Coin World and CoinValues as they are 2 good publications. But then again I hear that their Bu coins may be sliders (AU good lookers) or cleaned and/or dipped coins that really look great but, of course, have been cleaned. So I have not bought there yet.

Times are tough. Tomorrow I'm going to a Sacramento Coin show at Dante's. A smaller, more friendly show where the pit vipers like the MacIntosh family don't prey. With all my unexpected expenses lately I'll be satisfied to just look and note the prices of the coins I'd love to buy. With very little restraint I'm sure to buy something I need or just want. I'll try and keep it under $100 this show, as times are getting tight.

I hate it when the gov't fxs up and put all its citizens in a RED or ORANGE state of ALERT weather it be some phony terrorist threat or when they jack up the fear just before the elections. This causes every average citizen to freeze and get scared. "OH Lordy! What gonna happen to us now?"

Trying not to get too far off the thread..It is hard for us, the average person, to figure out what's up with our financial system when the "experts" are screwing it up each and every day and then blaming each other. (Think REPS & DEMS).

So. Back to the original question. Where & when is the right time and place to buy coins.

I bought what should have been BU examples of a two cent piece and a shield nickel from them back in ca. 1993, and had to return them. They were good about the return, but they must get a lot of them.

I would steer clear of advertisers in CoinWorld, not all certainly, but there are many there that have no reputation outside of CW.

If the coins are cheap, there is a reason. Better to go high price, and be satisfied with the coin even if not the price.

I got some decent coins from them, but whenever I ordered one of their specials I ended up returning it. I guess they run the specials when they have problem coins to unload.
