so i havent come across a 1964 cent like this yet can anyone give me some suggestions, im thinking its a maybe.. when lined up with the other 1964 Pennies the Color is Drastic, my camera skill are rather lacking and dont really do these coins justice with the true color.... but here it is tell me what you all think.... THE COIN ON THE LEFT is the coin in question!
I don't see a thing to indicate anything but a normal 1964 cent. or would mean nothing in identifying a sms cent. Copper can be any range of color depending on how it has been stored and what it has gone through. My guess is this one has been cleaned.
actually im glad you said that because i was thinking it might have been cleaned but i couldnt find any indication of it... thought im still so very new to all this
I know for a fact 1964 proof sets were made. SMS sets were made 1965-67 in lieu of proofs, so this is not an SMS coin. Google: “SMS coinage history” and read what thesprucecrafts.com has to say. It is the first listed and info from PCGS is listed second…imo…Spark @Danny Bulric
I believe there are a handful of 1964 SMS cents. Although I'm pretty sure like you said this example is not one of them. https://www.pcgs.com/news/1964-special-mint-set-coins
This was actually meant to be "Color would mean nothing in identifying a sms cent", guess my fingers got away from me!
