Also the FG on the reverse is very weak. Barely visible.
Or could this be just die deterioration.

Hmm it looks legitimate to me but I’m still suspicious. There haven’t been any ddrs for 1980d Susan B. Anthony dollars so I really hope you have something incredible!

I’m wary of this coin though because it almost looks as if somebody carved the letters to make it appear like a ddr...

Hi, my name is Gary. I am 10 months new to coin collecting. I am replying back because I also have in my possession a 1980 D Susan B. Anthony dollar with a nearly duplicate DDR. The Obverse has no doubling but on the reverse doubling is showing on UNITED STAT__ OF AMERICA as well as ONE DOLLAR. All text doubling is raised with the initial strike as in the above pictures. I use a 20x loupe. I just discovered this yesterday 07/09/2018.

Yes in my mind this is a reverse double die error. I have been studying this example and this is the first DDR that I feel is the one. I've seen many die deterioration issues but this is the first where the lines are even and in the center of most strikes identifiable. I wish I had a picture at this time but I only have my cell phone...I bought a new microscope but haven't had the necessary time to learn the software. When I saw the post I had to verify that another possible DDR was possible. Thanks for your reply.

Its look like doubled die to me. I guess, I'll wait for more experiences collector out there to chime in. Very interesting.

Thanks! Willy. But, somehow by looking at the reverse it just doesn't seem like die deterioration. I'm still sorta leaning toward on doubled die. I think this is going to be a good lesson for me.

I have a 1979 SBA that is a DDR and have had the coin since it came out in 79 in my piggy bank of odd coins. It has NOT been floating around out there for die deterioration to happen. I'm not sure what to do with mine either. I also can't find anybody that has any information about it.

Die deterioration happens at the mint. When the die gets old the later coins that are minted can show DDD (die deterioration doubling).
Try and post a clear photo (both sides). Have a nice day.
