Is the PCI grading company still in business? I know they didn't used to have a very good reputation for grading accurately except for the green label holders, but they did have a very good holder and were cheap. Thanks!
It wasn't all the green-label holders, either. Only those from the early 90s and before (more or less) are considered to be the good ones.
I went to their web site and tried to send them a email, but it didn't send. Here is the failure message "Please try later or contact the administrator by another method." Has anyone on the forum sent them any coins lately?
I think they are out of business AGAIN. They have had at least seven owners under that name, plus DLRC owned and ran it as DGS for a year. (Two of the owners have been since DGS closed down.)
I tried to send a email from their site it didn't work so copied & pasted the address and sent it from my email account still waiting for a answer
I have this - bought from someone that is on this site I think. Very nice coin but I probably overpaid for it as the I bid the picture not the holder...still I think it is nice...I have NO idea if it was one of the good ones or not..
I called them on the number listed on their website yesterday and left a message about submitting coins, but have not received a answer yet. I printed out one of their submission forms and it has a wrong telephone number on it, when I called it I got a Hair Loss Center company.
PCI has had more lives than a cat, and has lost many of them rather quickly. I haven't had a need to send them any coins since 1992.
Stupid question, but how can every company be below average (cost and turnaround)? Or even average or below (4 of them)?
Average is not the arithmetic mean but a label given to acceptable performance. They probably should have used adequate or acceptable instead of average. The survey had flaws but does reveal a theme that has been discussed here on CT many times, that PCGS and NGC are the two top tier TPGs.
Was this the piece auctioned by Kryptonitecomics in a no reserve $1 auction either late last year or early this year? If so, I believe I was the consignor. And if it is the same coin, my thoughts after seeing the coin in hand is that the coin sold for what PCGS/NGC samples of the coin's true grade/quality were selling for. I don't think it was that bad at all. And it is far nicer than most of the stuff that you see in the gold holders though.
I believe you are correct. Well I just do not think it is a PR68 DCAM. It is a beautiful coin nonetheless and I was satisfied with my purchase. The wife was involved in this one and said GET IT, so I did. If is was that grade in a PCGS/NGC holder it would have went for a lot more. I think it is a PR67 CAM for sure, DCAM is iffy as I have slabbed examples that are better from the Big Two that only CAM. Grade wise, it was off one, but maybe it would be a 68, I am not good enough to know yet. You are spot on on this one. 100% All in all I am glad and it was a good purchase as it got the wife involved and you take much better pictures than I do..
