I was part of an auction from a seller from India who has a very decent Raja Raja Chola copper that I felt I must own for my Octopus collection. A very nice Chola invasion coin. Here is how it went... I bid $3 and after a day or so I was out bid. I bid $5 and again I was outbid. @dougsmit said he paid $10.60 for his gorgeous piece in JA's thread "3 Little Indians". So at least I know what the king of the bottom feeders would pay. Very shortly after reading the $10.60 number the bidding crossed the $10 mark with minutes to go, I did what any good American would do when faced with opposition...I sent in Andrew Jackson! Chola Era Temple...These guys really new how to build stuff, they certainly give the Romans a run for their money. India, Tamilnadu Empire of the Chola Raja Raja Chola (AD 985-1014) AE Kasu 20 mm x 4.38 grams Obverse: King Standing Holding Lotus. 5 lobes with crescent moon right field. Double tier lantern in Left field. Reverse: King Seated holding Conch Shell- Sri Raja Raja Note: Nice beautiful patina with slight double strike.
Mine was probably cheaper because I had to work for its freedom. It was the only slabbed coin I ever bought. Yours is better by far than most I've seen. Attaboy, Andrew.
I've been looking at some of these types, but can't find one as nice as yours where Andrew Jackson would prevail.
Yah, I'm not quite sure where the conch shell is, but overall that fricken coin is pretty cool (sweet score, Noob)
Terrific score A-noob....and you are certainly right about the 'Indian' architectural wonders---it all just boggles the imagination... And, you now have me bidding on an AE-28 Vima Kadphises from Kushan---with a Shiva before a bull reverse.... Just what I need, more coins of interest and bidding LOL
excellent! i want a raja raja version of the coin, have bid on two and game up short. guess i'll have to send in andrew as well...alexander didn't get the job done.
Nice display ! I would just make the black border around the coins a bit smaller. That makes the coins visually a bit larger.
... but if you click-on his display, it zooms-in Noob ... I think that monkey-squirrel coin is still my favourite of the bunch (Uttama Chola)
Also, it is best to resize images small enough so that when enlarged, the show in their entirely on the average computer screen without having to scroll.
Noob, I like your virtual-tray so much that I've decided to make my own example (sadly, my computer skills are not that strong, so I have only gotten this far) ... ... ummm, please point me in the correct direction ... oh, and none of that black stuff for my tray!! thanks brother
Nice => wow, that's so awesome!! (thanks for your help, coin-princess) ... nice decapitation tray (I love it) Awesome detail, placing the coins in the tray (A+ on your Art project) Ummm, I don't mean to be a perfectionist, but you're missing this sweetie of mine: => oh, just jokes (please don't spend any more time on my tray ... thanks again for the effort)
