I have a 1969 $1 bill with a print of Geore Washingtons face on both side. It has has ` This note is legal tender for all depts, public and private` printed backwards on the backside while other markings from the front are printed in reverse on the back. Also, The United States Of America wording is printed in reverse on the back above the original correct wording of it with `FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE` printed in reverse above `THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA`. It is also in a fairly mint condition. It looks as if both sides of the dollar were printed on one side. There is also the black print border from the front on the back outlining the print. Would anyone happen to know the value of what it may be worth? I would appreciate very much if anyone could help. Thank you.
Yep... Post this in the "PAper Money Fourm...sounds like a nice error. If you post a pic it will help us alot!! RickieB
Thank you for responding so quickly, I`ll definitely post it Paper Money forum. At the moment I do not have a camara that can properly display a good, clear, solid image. I`ll do my best to get one up. Thank you.
Hi Lucky, and to CoinTalk. Your description of backward letters sounds like the plate may have been overinked for the previous sheet, resulting in an offset to your bill from the sheet below it in the press output tray. Clear pictures of both sides are absolutely essential.
At the moment I am away from home and using a pda to get online. Unfortunately I cannot find a host compatible with my phone in whick would allow me to upload photo`s. I can take a picture of it that will display the George Washington face print on back and give an idea but, some of the other do not display because of the poor quality camera Im using . Would it be possible for me to email you a picture to get a better understanding of the dollar until I can post quality , clear pictures up ?
What it sounds like to me is an Offset transfer..that is it display the face design on the reverse of the note as well. If the transfer is complete and considered strong it can pay from 100.00 to 200.00 over face value. If the transfer is faint or partial..the value may be ~ 25$ over face. Again this all depends on condition, Series, and paper quality as well. It would serve us well if you could post as good a pic as possible. RickieB
To me,it sounds like a wet ink error,as the notes are stacked after the ink has dried.Occasionally,a sheet of wet notes gets stacked by mistake, hence the design from the front of the next note down in the stack. Yes,these are very good items.Do not under any circumstances spend it.Get it in a protective banknote sleeve as soon as possible, then you won't run the risk of spending it by mistake. They deserve to be pulled from circulation - not for destruction, but finding a place in someone's collection, that is!
