Was found in a box full of brand new 2013p nickels. It appears to be a type two, hoping you guys could confirm. i know the pennie planchets only go for 2 or 3 dollars but i heard the nickels were more rare. Any idea of what the value might be ?
heres a new photo, from your old photo, looks like it was ground down to me, no flange left between field and rim, or its a die cap
Welcome to the neighborhood! Well, let's try to clear up one point, first. There is no such thing as a "blank planchet coin". A blank is like a "slug" that has been cut from the sheet of metal for coin-making. Once the blank has been processed through the upsetting mill where the edge is turned up to facilitate the striking process, it is called a planchet, and after the planchet goes through the coining chamber, it is then called a coin. So, is your specimen a blank without the upset rim or a planchet with the upset rim? Chris
its looks like a planchet to me but im a new coin collector and im not sure. would a side pic help u guys out with determining the type ?
Heres a site for you, lots of errors to look at, AND YES, YOUR COIN WAS STAMPED http://hermes.csd.net/~coneca/content/recentfinds.htm
first off , that link you sent me as awesome! lol i apologize in advance but what does it mean that my coin (blank or planchet) was stamped ? i found this link and my coin looks exactly like the one on the right even though mine is a nickel http://lincolncentresource.net/site/education/errors/blanks-and-planchets/
Looks like a blank planchet to me. I've never seen a nickel planchet but I have found a cent in a roll that looks a lot like yours, with the exception of it being a cent
