I have just found one of these. What have you found out about this? I had one coin dealer offer me 500$ for it. That made me think I should definitely find out more about it.
@Loushan You need to post a pic. Your odds of finding a cent struck on a dime planchet, or an unplated zinc cent is extremely low. However, there are lots and lots and lots (did I lots enough) of novelty plated and damaged cents that look silver colored but are not mint errors. If you post a focused, cropped pic, there are enough experienced members on here that can determine if it has potential (don't get your hopes up), or just one of the numerous plated/damaged coins. FWIW: I would have jumped at the offer to sell it for $500. Even if you did beat the high odds and found something real, I don't think off-denomination errors or planchets that never received copper plating retail for that much
And if it was then it would be the same size, thickness and weight of a dime. That Cent looks normal besides the plating added to it.
Original 1 post thread is 8 years old. New poster did not post a picture, only stated they have a silver penny that a dealer offered $500 for.
High school science experiment to plate a cent with zinc...silver cent...now heat it up and you get a brass layer...gold cent
Yo.. the last time alardin was seen on Cointalk was Sept 2010 He most likely found out it was worthless and never came back to let us know.
