How do you store your PCGS or other slabbed coins? Meaning, do you keep them in a specially designed box, book, drawer, etc? :)

I saw a nice looking walnut box that holds 30 slabs online I might pick up, but it's a little pricey. :kewl:

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I would avoid a wooden box. Wood gives off vapors which can damage your coins over time. I prefer the slab storage boxes which NGC makes (or used to make? not sure if they still do). They are grey, have a nice NGC logo, and hold 20 slabs perfectly.

I use Eagle Certified Coin Albums.
There aren't many albums like them but I think Littleton makes some too.

Slabbed coins in a PCGS plastic holder. Other coins in Mylar flips or Dansco folders. All stored in a safe that also has a large jar of desiccant that is "refreshed" (dehydrated) every couple of weeks.

I have the 2-row red interercept shield boxes, and keep them in the SDB at the bank. I have silica gel dryer packs in the bank box as well.

Ngc has a metal box made for their slabs, like 15 bucks, pcgs has a plastic blue box for their slabs, like 10 bucks. If you buy that wooden box chances are your coines will be damaged, jammed in, and the slabs wont fit. Seriously they made company boxes for company slabs so just get that :)

I believe NGC still makes them because there was a flyer in my last renewal packet. They're $5.50 each plus shipping.

I still use the NGC & PCGS boxes, but I also use the cardboard shipping boxes NGC uses for sending your submissions back to you. The double-wide shipping box holds 50 slabs. I once asked NGC if they would sell me some of the double-wides, but they said they couldn't. I think I'll ask Dena at the NGC Luncheon at FUN 2011. If anybody can get them for me, she can. She's such a sweetheart!

I only have a couple slabs, bullion, bought for bullion prices, but when I was at a coin show a while back one of the dealers was selling slab boxes for 4 dollars so I picked one up.

I like intercept shield boxes. 20 slab boxes stack and are very orderly. Also for higher end coins I use the intercept shield individual slab sleeve that fit into a 10 coin box that is lined as well. The boxes are lined with sacrificial metal that supposedly does all the toning so your coins are spared. I don't safety deposit box anything. I want to look at my coins more than that. Protected in other ways from theft.

The most space efficient are the trusty double row red boxes. They hold about 63 certified coins tightly. They are useful for shipping coins as well.

For quantities under 20, the PCGS and NGC boxes are great. The PCGS blue boxes aren't very good for NGC coins. NGC boxes are good for PCGS and NGC coins (similar to the set registries :))

I found that out earlier today when my blue box arrived. I only have a few slab coins, (all NGC) and had purchased a PCGS blue box off ebay for a few dollars. I figured all slabs were the same size, but apparently that's not the case... Oh well, I'm sure I'll get some PCGS slabs eventually.

coppermania, those intercept boxes fit into a Large Safety Deposit Box both sizes ,I take pictures of my coins before storing in SDB & occasionally visit them & take a few home for a while ,only way (IMO) .In my city you can get a hunting license for a shotgun or hunting rifle( but forget about a pistol or carry licence unless you own a store) that's risky also with people wanting to play with them. So Intercept Boxes are my first choice,no toning changes or bank humidity to affect them after 3years in those boxes,I highly recommend them if you have a large SDB.

For those of you who have some of the old ANACS slabs, here is a neat little trick that I use for storing them.

As many of you know, these slabs are smaller than either NGC or PCGS slabs. I used to store them in the Eagle slab pages using the foam adaptors that are available at JP's Corner. When I stopped using the Eagle pages, I found that I could use the foam adaptor in the NGC storage boxes to hold the ANACS slabs securely in place. Just position the slab in the adaptor and press it into the slot. They fit perfectly! This doesn't work with the PCGS box.

The pieces of the slabs go into the brown (non-recycle) trash bin and the coins go into their appropriate places in my home-brew albums.
