Here's the latest addition to my late date large cent collection. Please grade the following coin, and also guess the grade NGC assigned to it. NOTE: The slab has scratches that are visible in the photos. As always, comments on what you like and dislike, as well as how you arrived at the grade(s) you did, are most apprecaited. Have fun...Mike
Howdy Mike, First let me say that it looks great and it would be a coin anyone would be proud of! I grade this coin AU55 and think NGC graded the coin AU...but I'm not sure what number they used....either 55 or 58. The coin has great color---but just a nice bit of wear. Speedy
Great coin ! NGC AU55 RB ...and as usual the best photography. You simply MUST give me your recipe ! What kind of lighting do you use ?
I am going to say AU-58. Do you know the newcomb number? I was think N-16, but with 40 varieties I got tired of looking.
Wow, she sure is a stunner! A tad bit of wear, but I would say AU-53 for myself, and NGC said AU-55. A beautiful addition to your collection. :thumb: Phoenix
It is an N-38.... I'll hold on giving out the grade just yet, but nobody has yet guessed what NGC graded it. Happy Turkey Day everyone! I'll post the grade later. If you can't wait, PM me...Mike
Even though there appears to be obvious wear on the coin my gut says NGC went with a grade of MS61 RB , but I still think it's only AU55-58.
I've seen alot of NGC graded large cents and it often suprises me how often I disagree with their grades. More often than not I would have assigned a lower grade. My guess on this coin is NGC MS63.
I was just checking coinfacts and heritage - it appears the N-16 has been delisted. Research showed N-16 and N-38 are the same. I had narrowed it down to those two then just guessed. Okay - now I say MS62 brown. I am wondering if this has to do with a weak strike, because it looks like wear to me(just slightly).
