I wouldn't normally ask about how to find the NGC cert number from this barcode, but this one confounds me. The original poster was being cute by putting this "bow" icon on top of the number, and it kind of covers the barcode. Can any of you figure this one out?
Well that is interesting way to obfuscate the cert number! I'll give them point for creativity. I would suggest you literally use a phone barcode app, to scan the barcode from the image, and I think you have a reasonable chance of it working. I think it may well see through the white of the ribbons, as some portion of the vertical bars are visible in most places.
I especially like the floating hearts. Sorta makes you want to prance around in capri pants with a basket of flowers in the crook of your arm. Okay... maybe not..
Second coin has a bar hidden, the second bar. Plus overall more real estate of the bars is behind the white of the ribbon. Wont scan for me.
YOU DA MAN! Thank you, sir? If you don't mind revealing your wonderpowers, how did you DO that? (Now, how about that 10-Won coin barcode?)
Well, in this case, I tested a generic barcode scanning app, and it didnt work. Then I got clever (not really), and decided to try the NGC app, and it worked like a charm. But like I said in my original post, it was sort of luck that the white lines of the ribbon didn't completely cover any one bar of the barcode. In your second coin, that's unfortunately not the case. If you dont have the NGC app, I would download it if you are in the habit of looking up certs. NGC makes manually entering them a pain now (trying to prevent mass lookups), so the Cert scanner will save a lot of time, even if you aren't dealing with obfuscated certs! In fact, I will take my own advice and probably be doing this on all lookups in the future. So in a way, you showed me something today!
Okay, I guess you can say I have wonderpowers now. I cracked the second image as well! I literally drew in the parts of all the missing bars with black, and guessed at the width of the second bar, and it worked! All my hardwork with crayons in second grade finally pays off! 2828190-029 Link to NGC Cert Page.
This is so awesome! Thanks! These patterns are super cool, btw. I finally can see good photos of them.
Yeah but you'd need to know the grades as well, and when fishing like that you can only try 10 times before it locks you out for a while. And at the same time you set off red flags for the buyer, and make it more difficult (or impossible) for them to verify the authenticity of the slab/coin. That can result in a lower final value for your auction. How is that worthwhile?
People do all sorts of weird things. Possibly to hide the grade ("Buy the coin not the grade". ), or to hide alternate photos, or to prevent a buyer from (easily) checking previous auction regards. 100% agree with this. If I see a seller obfuscating the cert, it's an instant deal breaker. I don't even give it a second thought and move along to the next coin.
I didn't say it was . I agree if you are selling a coin, you need to share that information unless you are selling in bulk. I was just saying why someone would be paranoid enough to do it.
The only legitimate reason I can actually think of is if it were a stock photo as sometimes they'll put in a fake cert then but everything else is just sort of paranoia or making the buyers life harder which will quickly frustrate them
