I just went through a box of half dollars and got NO silver. I did manage to pull two whole rolls of 2005 to 2011 beautiful half dollars out though!

What do you think they are worth per coin?

yeah, I have no luck finding silver halves any more either.
Would be interested in one each 2008P,2008D,2009P,2009D,2010P,2011P,2011D myself : face+postage+a nominal premium at least

If they're AU/BU you could probably get a buck or two a piece for them on eBay plus postage. It' doesn't sound like much profit, but hey: it's at least 100% return on your investment!

Not to be a bummer as much as a realist but the coins would have to sell for $2.00 in open bidding starting at .01 to realize a .52 profit. Shipping would be charged at .44 (Actual postage 1st Class letter) with the coin in a 2x2. I don't think this would happen but it's possible.

If the coin sold for a buck in open bidding it would cost you .36 cents.

If you sold it for a $2.00 Buy it now, you'd lose .02 cents on each transaction

whereas a $1.00 buy it now would cost you .88 cents.

My advice is to pick out the very best one's you find and save them for some point in the future. If you're young, perhaps in 30 or 40 years some profit could be realized thats more than just .52 cents.

Better yet, why not maximize your Kennedy Roll searching and simply pick out the best of each year/mm that you find and build a "From Circulation" Kennedy Set?

99% of the coins CAN be found from circulated bank rolls which includes the "Mint Set Only" 1987 P & D. The 1970-D wopuld more than likely have to be purchased unless you got extremely LUCKY!

I have purchased US Mint bags since they were made available on the US Mints website and have learned that selling these can be more costly than simply spending them. Obviously others felt the same way otherwise the OP would not have found so many?

BTW, the eBay Fee Calculator can be found here: http://www.rolbe.com/ebay.htm
And no, I am not affiliated with Ryan Olbe. I just like to use the calculator he so graciously makes available.

This thread is just what i'm looking for! I'm brand new to roll searching and know nothing about numi. Right now I am just looking for silver, I figure as I learn more I can reevaluate these coins for other value traits. Hearing you say that 2005-2011 may have collector value of $1 or $2 really heightens my fear that I'm passing up great coins. I have been able to find bits and peices of info here and there, but would really appreciate if someone could point me to a good resource for coins worth more than face. specifically halves and dimes. more worried about the newer years as I am turning them back in. the coins with silver I am saving anyway so I have plenty of time to learn if they are worth anything more than melt. Coin roll hunting is a lot of fun! I wish I would have started years ago, it's like a treasure hunt!

Honestly, silver is the easiest way to go if you want something that has a large market. Collector coins are just too pricey and there's too many variables for me. I just like junk silver due to their easy sale. Coinflation.com is a GREAT site! I wish I started when I was born... lol

Good thing I JUST turned 19 yesterday! :D My biggest score was 262 (13+) rolls of pure 40% silver that I sold for 1.6k! :D

    Thats Great!

I bought the coin below in a roll I paid $27 for, found out what it was, got it graded, and sold it for over $1,000.

All that I'm saying is that if you limit yourself simply to "looking" for silver, then you miss out on the REAL opportunities that the Kennedy Series has to offer. Why not explore what you're really looking at and take advantage of some really neat opportunities "while" you're finding silver?

Besides, looking is free but you've got to invest the time to look.

I wonder how much of the silver you found had some really cool varieties in it?

out of curiosity, why was it $1k? and I mean, i have no regrets since I made all profit. but I've always wondered why coins like that are worth so much. Where can you find out?

SEE!! That's what I'm talking about!! If I got that coin I would turn it back into the bank for .50!! Is there a reference book or website to get me up to speed on all the post '70 halves and post '64 dimes?

    Thank you in advance!

    -edited to add-
There are several '72 kennedy halves on ebay right now of all different qualities and mint marks. I don't see any of them listing for more than a couple dollars. Was yours an error coin or something? I can't wait till I start to understand all this!

It's a die polishing error, they polished off the designers initials on the reverse. It happens sometimes. Personally I think it is a minor error and I wouldn't pay more than a dollar or so for one. Obviously someone else feels differently Congratulations 19Lyds.
