I have two 1876-CC half dollars and there is something odd with the actual mintmarks. They look different on the two coins. Can this be varieties or something else? Here is a photo of on of them. The CC looks "normal" compared to other official references I have seen. The other has, or looks like, have smaller CC's and more rounded. I don't have a photo now, but can upload later. Thanks. Wiley & Buggert list three different sets of mintmarks; Small, Medium & Large. I wish I could direct you to a site for more information, but David Lawrence took down their online reference library. You could go to the message boards for the Liberty Collectors Society Site. Someone there might be able to give you better help. Good Luck.
You may have to give it a couple of seconds to load but here it should be https://web.archive.org/web/2011010...dollars/liberty-seated-half-dollars/lshd-ch2/
Best way to do it is go to the link I provided. http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Hierarchy.aspx?c=730&title=Type+5,+With+Motto+(1866-1891)
Thank you all! You solved my mystery! Does anyone know if either of these varieties are more rare than others? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So i think the one in the photo of my first post is medium (WB-102) or large (WB-103). Here is a photo of the other coin I mentioned. It looks like the small mint mark, the WB-101. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
