If given the choice, which coin would you prefer?

    1. MS 61 with green sticker
    2. MS 60 with gold sticker

If my understanding is correct, green means it is in the top half of the grade and gold means it is a grade higher. So theoretically these two coins should be about the same. Right?

Given the choice, I'd want to see both coins. Yeah, it's a cop-out answer, but I don't select coins sight-unseen, especially if I'm needing to choose between the two worst MS grades.

So let me amend the question and say that both coins look identical. Only difference is the grade and sticker.

    Then they wouldn't look identical

It’s a straight numbers question. After the bump up gold sticker you only have a straight MS61 and the green bean MS61 trumps a straight MS61!

Gold doesn't have a limit for how undergraded it is. Gold's don't get given out often it's something like less than 1 percent of what they actually sticker and most of them are with mercury dimes where the resubmission fee doesn't make financial sense. No one is sure the exact minimum requirements but the general consensus is that the minimum is something that would green sticker at a higher grade. Gold could be 2 or 3 grades under though and sometimes more such as a AU58 with a gold sticker that could have been a 63/64 depending on whether or not someone felt there was any rub on it

That really isn't true at all. Things that would just go up a grade and would not sticker do not get gold stickers.

Well they could. Grading is subjective and the same coin could receive two different grades on two different days.

I would Buy the best coin to my eye not a sticker of any color or from any company. Questions as such always lead me to believe that a buyer knows absolutely nada about buying coins. Then rely's on a third party to make the right choice for them.......

Hmm. I've always been told to "Buy the coin. Not the slab or sticker". I think this is the best advice one can get when purchasing graded coins.

The gold . . . while the two coins are mostly likely equal in grade, the gold sticker has a following that almost seems to regard it as a lottery ticket.

Folks pay crazy money for gold beans. I don't play that game.

I don't play that game either . . . I don't even pay a premium for green beans. In fact, sometimes I've overlooked the fact that a coin I have in inventory has a bean on it because I wasn't paying attention to the bean when I bought the coin.

I guess I'd rather be selling a 60 with a gold bean than a 61 with a green one, since gold beans tend to be rational thought inhibitors for enough buyers that I'd be able to get more money for it.

Well then why are you treating the question like it's a matter of two and two make four?

And, BTW, I agree with some of the others, no matter how you slice it, the question assumes we place more importance on plastic and stickers than coins...

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Depends who "we" is. There's "us we" and "them we". :D As soon as we assume there's only one "we", "we" are wrong.

    Neither coin.
I try VERY hard to stay away from the grades of MS-60, -61 or -62.
    Give me an AU-58 instead.

But to be honest I do have several coins graded MS-62.
