In one of my best finds of recent years, and I have been fortunate with a few, I was able to get a Bahamas 2000 7 Coin Specimen/Mint set for nearly nothing. This somehow survived the 7 day passage of ebay evidently largely unnoticed. This set is VERY rare, much more so than the 5 coin set that is nothing special and includes the 50c and then especially the One Dollar coin, which I have enclosed a picture of. Note that there were various 2000 year and slightly earlier souvenir dollars WITHOUT the conch shell but this was the last "Conch" struck after beginning the issue in 1966. A good friend of mine estimates possibly only 50 sets issued, or a mintage close to that. Note that this is a Royal Mint issue and NOT Franklin Mint (that was largely defunct by this time period in any case):
That is an excellent citation. I wonder what the "n" is, that is the number - I very much doubt it is a high number. I use them many times as well as Schon which I have not looked up.
Interesting - there are year 2000 Bahamas conch coins that are not the general type of 1966 and are an entire different design although there is a conch. I also highly doubt that 13% of reporters have the 2000 One Dollar Conch traditional kind, the putative KM 65B. I have noticed these percentage figure on Numista to be off on occasions... This coin - the 2000 Conch of the "older" type - is listed in Schon, but as usual there are problems with that one too. In Schon it is listed as A62 however there are listings for "ST" or Brilliant Uncirculated and "PP" or Proof. This latter would NOT be listed properly as there def. is no such animal, but there is a proof of this later "commemorative" type. This is KM 176 (this is dual dated year 2000 on the one side and 1996 on the other). I hope that doesn't confuse. BTW "n" is for number of reported pieces.
Magnificent set. I love finding these elusive and unusual, very low mintage sets and their variations, as well.
To confuse matters further there is a year 2000 Bahamas dollar coin struck in copper nickel that is a commem for 2000 years of Christianity but not a conch design...
