Are you sure it is toned gold and not electroplated gold?. There are many gold plated "statehood quarters" because of the fad. I have a completed set of gold plated staethood quarters. Of course they are now just novilties.

it appears to have the same tone as the sac dollars.

but i dont know if thats a good indicator or not.

alrighty...i compared it to three sac dollars i have and the tone is very similar to them. the tone to the sacs arent exactly the same to each other (because of handling maybe?) but the tones of those and the tone of this quarter are all similar.

Well if the coin is toned "gold" on both sides and the reeded edge then there are three possibilities: 1 the coins has been artifically toned, 2 the coin has been gold plated, or 3 the coin was struck on a SAC blanchet. The third one would make it very rare.

Post a pick so we all can see this coin. If you can.

    SmokeMonkey,

Your' State Quarter could just be toned or plated as others have stated. However, the Mints experimented with different types (composition) of planchets when they were trying to come up with a planchet to use for the Sacagawea Dollars and they struck some of the planchets with 1999 State Quarter Dies (a few 2000 State Quarters were found as well). I think that there were three different Experimental Planchets used during these experiments (tests or trials) and one of those is similar to the Sacagawea Dollar Planchets. Check out the links below for more information on these Error Coins, especially the first link. Also, see if your' Quarter meets any of the criteria on Mike Byer's Website.

[IMG] to CoinTalk SmokeMonkey. The odds are that you have a plated or artificially colored coin, but who knows[IMG].

Since yours is a type known to exist on the experimental planchets there is always a chance that you have struck it rich - Good luck. :thumb:

i see a faint glimmer of "silver" in george's wig. its barely noticable but its there.

    nevermind!

but i'm still keeping it anyway.

    thanks anyway.
