I recently bought this gold plated half dollar at face value during an estate sale. The obverse side has miniature face along with the year 1963 stamped right above the word "In God" and the year 1968 on the opposite side above " we trust".
Just wondering if this is even legal tender and can it be spent ? And is this considered a damaged coin since it has been altered?Hope to get your input and comments, and hopefully, some good advice and or information. Thanks.

damaged because it was stamped with those 2 dates and damage because someone gold plated it.

My actual intention was to buy his shredder for $5 bucks. I payed him with 2 washington dollars, 2 kennedy bicentennial half dollars and 2 $1 bill. I just happen to ask if he had any coins for sale. He then produced a big binder containing foreign and US coins and dollar bills. He's selling his mom's house along with everything in it. Aside from the half dollar coin I bought, I was able to score two 1935 one dollar bill for $4 bucks.Unfortunately, I only had $10 on me. Tomorrow I plan to see him again since I offered to trade him an echo dot for his whole binder. He had several 90% and 40% silver half dollars, silver quarters and a couple of 1930s dollar. Hopefully considers my offer. Hopefully, no more damaged or altered coins.

One thing that is unusual is that normally the dates you see are 1960/1980 and 1960/1985

Wasn't it the year 1963 when pres kennedy got assassinated? MLK was assassinated 1968 which I think was why it was stamped on the opposite side. Just my theory for the dates.
