Hey. I have a gold $ coin with Thomas Jefferson on it. There are writings on the side of it and I haven't seen such thing before. I was told that a select few were made and it is worth money. I f anyone should know of the worth, if any, or give me some kind of feedback, I would gladly appreciate it.
need a pic to be sure, but it sounds like you have a presidential dollar, which is very common and only worth face value.
If you enjoy it, then keep it. If not then let it go, and it might a good home before it gets all scratched up. ----Think of it as a charm/medal. I think it is worth more than a dollar, even though that is all it is worth/face value. I like that President.
Allow me to assist you. In 2007 the US Mint began minting gold colored, no gold in them, $1 coins with past presidents on the obverse, The Presidential Dollar Coin Program. The composition is 88.5% Copper, 6% Zinc, 3.5% Manganese, and 2% Nickel. The edge lettering is incused on each of these coins through a seperate process after the coins are struck. The value, circulated coins $1.00, uncirculated MS, and proofs, are valued more than face value. If you go by redbook prices $3-$10.
Yeah, only 100,800,000 at the Denver Mint and another 102,810,000 at Philadelphia. A total of 203,610,000 doesn't sound very "select" or "few" to me!
Well lilmama, the guys just gave you a "reality" check on that one. Hope that doesn't disappoint you or discourage you from collecting. Remember, collecting isn't always about what something is worth in $ but what it's worth to you. Hope you stick around here and if you're not too careful, these guys might "learn ya" a thing or three......
Does it look like this? Thomas Jefferson La Purchase Gold Commemorative If so, it could be worth over $1500 depending on condition.
Reply to 'Gold Coin' post Thank you everyone for your replies and also for the pictures that you posted to help me out. However, the coin I have did not look like any of the ones I seen from the replies. I will take a picture of it and upload it for it to be seen. On the other hand, some of your replies were a bit sarcastic to me. I never said that I just wanted to exchange it for money. I'm just curious of what I have here. For all the intellects who responded, much appreciation. To those who try to 'judge people', thanks, but no thanks.
Gold dollar coin with edge writing an thomas jefferson, it sounds like you are describing a "golden" presidential dollar. If that is the case, then it is worth a dollar.
