When Geta was murdered, the senate approved a DAMNATIO MEMORIAE in his name, so that inscriptions, art work, and even coins were scrubbed of his image. Here is an example from vcoins: gF+/gF+ Caracalla and Geta as Caesar, Caria Stratonikeia Æ37 / Damnatio Memoriae The famed Severan tondo also has Geta scrubbed out: Read more about this practice: https://www.khanacademy.org/humanit...mnatio-memoriaeroman-sanctions-against-memory
There have been several outings of these here on CT. Several of us have examples. The thread below is one. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/a-congregation-of-bronzes.335281/#post-3421116
yeah, too bad it didn't work i mean he(Caracalla) did become sole emperor..all be it until his soldiers killed him.. Geta's now more(or just as) known & looked on with sympathy while Caracalla's damned...by most anyway..someone was just showing 2 of those coins in their collection the other day...here's a family coin portrait.
It seems that history eventually turns against figures that were cruel and vengeful during their time in power by setting the record straight as you say.
