Well, my wife and I made our first actual "coin" purchase since we began collecting. I like to hit the local pawn shops around town, always looking for deal on tools lol, and in a display case I saw this framed coin collection. I asked about it, the guy that owns the place was busy with some deputies, he also sells law enforcement equipment, holsters and such, the other guy that works there asked the owner a price, he replies, what's the face value? $9.90 face value, the owner says $40.00, couldn't get my money out of my pocket fast enough, lol. On the sheet there is: 1978 Eisenhower Dollar, 1906 Indian Head Penny,1985 Lincoln Zinc Cent, 1958 Wheat Ear Cent, 1943 Steel Cent, 1959 Copper Memorial Cent, Bicentennial Dollar, 1943 Silver War Nickel, !961 Jefferson Nickel, 1910 Liberty Nickel, 1936 Buffalo Nickel, 1908 Silver Barber Dime, 1943 Silver Mercury Dime, 1960 Siver Roosevelt Dime, 1977 Rooosevelt Clad Dime, 1980 Susan B. Anthony Dollar, 1902 Silver Barber Quarter, 1928 Silver Standing Liberty Quarter, Bicentennial Quarter, 1964 Siver Washington Quarter, 1978 Copper Nickel Washington Quarter, 1945 Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar, 1963 Silver Franklin Half Dollar, Bicentennial Half Dollar, 1964 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollar, 1969 40% Kennedy Half Dollar, 1994 Copper Nickel Half Dollar, 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar, 1922 Peace Silver Dollar. Sorry for such a long post, but I'm not to familiar with my wifes camera; tried to describe what was on the page. Guess what I'm wondering is if we did good at the $40.00 price? Thanks for looking. Todd
The silver coins in that display are worth somewhere around $120 just at melt value.... You didn't do good; you did fantastic and a half!
We were just discussing these framed sets in another thread. The frames without the coins are desirable as well! Way to go, excellent pickup! People like to buy the frames and replace the coins because they get some very interesting toning when in these. Have you taken a look at the back of the coins yet? Heres that read I mentioned: http://www.cointalk.com/t154642/
When I took the picture, I took the coin sheet out of the frame, the "glass" is actually a thin yellow plastic. I was assuming that was sort of a "uv filter" type deal to keep the direct light from getting to the coins. Would it be better to leave the yellow plastic, or would it be ok to replace it with glass?
