I'm not sure what to make of this one. Everything's normal except for the mint mark. Here's a picture of the obverse, as big as I can make it given the upload limit: Here's an exapanded photo of the date and the mint mark, which zeroes in on the mint mark oddity: I doubt this picture gives it justice. So, I've uploaded the full image in two places: Photobucket and a holder directory in the Icybid Website. The latter link will take a long time to load, but it's got the best detail. Rather than speculate, I'll throw up my hands and ask: what kind of error is this? Thanks for any replies.
Some people refer to this as a filled mintmark. It is a die chip that occured in the center of the mintmark, Richaed
Let me see my flipbook for "How to Notify CT Newps", lets see....."Just PMD", no..."Welcome to CT", no.... ah!, here we go. "Not worth more then face".
I dumped all my copper awhile ago...It just seems useless to me to keep. I could never find anywhere to sell it, and I really didnt have the money to keep tied up in some lousy copper cents.
on the copper note, i heard a runor that they are trying to pass a law that will allow people to melt copper pennies. obviously right now it would be considered defacing government peoperty :-( however i checked on ebay and found that i have been able to sell 15 dollars worth of copper pennies for 25 dollars. thats a 100 dollars on on 60 fv of copper. i sort them by hand while pulling certian dates for errors, and it s real time consuminig but it's extra money. or you can just buy the copper sorters.
First it’s worn but it has a die chip in the center that also wore so now it looks like this. Not worth sending to a TPG.
i have a 1978 penny with a similar mark but its just a dot, like a straight up dot, is it worth anything??
Probably not, I'm sorry. The market for straight-up dots has declined significantly over the years. It's probably just worth face value. To determine that, just flip it over and take a look on the back, "ONE CENT." I only say that because some people don't know it. I'm not saying you didn't know it, maybe you did, that could be, I don't know you. And welcome to CoinTalk.
