I decided I will post my favorite buys for 2017 by time periods. 2017 was a pretty good year for me for Medievals & Early Moderns. I got many coins I have wanted since childhood but just put off. And some were new areas like French Ecus. I know some will wonder why I picked these, but I really don't feel like typing a reason for each. No particular order. Charles I (1625 - 1649 A.D.) Great coins @Mat I like them all, but my favorite is the Louis XIV Edu. There was a time when those Ecu were my coin of choice.
I've actually been eying one of those recently, but it will have to wait till next year. Nice, it was actually the one I was referring to that I have wanted for ages.
Great coins @Mat My favourites are the Edward II, the Louis XIV, and the Henry VII. All of these are on my list of historical figures to acquire.
Awesome stuff, that écu is a serious chunk of silver, and the touchpiece possibility is very intriguing!
Great coins. I only photographed a couple of this year's medieval coins so far but here they are. We have a William I (The Conquerer) AR penny sword type. Henry VI AR goat minted in Calais. Anglo Saxon Sceat circa 870 AD. I have not spent much time researching this one but I think it was minted in York just before Ivan the Boneless and his Viking friends attacked and took the city.
Beautifull coins Mat I also have a passion for Medieval/Renaissance hammered coinage.... Here is one of my Medieval coins AV Zecchino ND 21mm./3.54g. unknown mint MS-65+ Crusader States/ Principality of Achaea Robert d'Anjou de Taranto 1333-64 Struck in the name of Andrea Dandolo Doge of Venezia
I made a several early modern purchases this year, and one one medieval. Here is one that will not make my top 10 list. 1621 Austria AR 3 Kreuzer O: LEOPOLDVS·D:G·R·I·S·A·G·H.B·R· , Leopold I of Habsburg facing right. Archidux Austriae Dux Burgundiae Comes Tyrolis 20 mm, 1.8 g I dig that Christmas avatar @FitzNigel !
I'm really starting to be more interested in coins/cobbs from this era. Would like to add a couple examples of both silver, and gold. (wish list anyway) I will post a Dan Carr Cobb, which I found to be very attractive.
