I went to a GREAT coin shop today !
It was staffed by two people, an older gentleman in the back corner doing research and a younger fellow fronting the store.
They were both very professional and very polite.
The younger fellow took himself away from his computer and stood to wait on me at the counter, continuing to do so for nearly 45 minutes.
Every time I asked about a specific coin, he would direct me straight to where it was displayed.
We spoke about many coins & variations.
He even went back to ask the owner (I presume) if they could take less for a 1909-S Lincoln.
The owner examined it for bit and stated that they could come down.
There was no off-color looks or frowns, just business.
I did not buy the 1909-S, I politely declined, and we continued conducting business on other coins.
They even humored my girlfriends questions about the cheap bin of foreign coins.

The prices were reasonable, but the service will stick in my mind forever.
After hearing stories from others here about shops, this was surely above many.
They said they had been in the business for 30+ years, it certainly showed.

If any of you are near the Bridgeport, OH / Wheeling, WV area, I highly suggest you check out their shop.
Here's the info from their card:

Great story! It gives you a sense of comfort when you find shops like that. It also gives a sense of trust that they are good people not looking to rip people off, and they know by doing good business like that, they may have a customer for life

    Fantastic coin shop

Whoa! Sure don't get anything nearly as nice at a coin shop near me.
Maybe I should move to Ohio.

I'm also fortunate to have a great local coin shop, Peter Doelger's Gallery of Coins in Warren, NJ. He keeps regular hours (something I have found many coin shops do not) and if it's close to closing time and you call and tell him you're on your way, he'll wait for you.

He is always friendly and courteous. I always felt comfortable going into the store even before I knew him. If he has something a customer is interested in, he'll hold it until they can come in to the store.

Is that North or Central Jersey? I have done some dealing with the John from Bergen Coins and a few others that go to the Burlington show 2nd Sunday each month.

This sign was hanging at local shop

Well, I won't give names. There is one older man and one younger and closer to my age, say 60+, who are both grumpy all the time. Perhaps it is just their natural demeanor, and they have gotten more hardened and calloused over time. Often there is a lot of unnecessarily foul language from one of them, like he would prefer you not bother him. There are sometimes two gals in the store, one young man, and one a bit older, but none of them seem to know anything about coins, but they are nicer and more helpful.
Problem is it is the only place in town that keeps regular hours that I can get to.
This is one of the reasons I go online a lot to find what I need.
Maybe someday I can get through to them and they won't think I am there just to pick their brains.
Besides, I almost always spend a bit of money there, rarely getting out the door without shelling out 50 bucks or much more.
    Oh well...

    Oh, I forgot to add.....

This shop also gives out old coins in change.

I got a 1938 nickel in my change.

    I didn't buy a lot.
I got a small currency album, 3 2x2 boxes, a nickel and half dollar album, a VF 1866 3 cent piece, AU 1905 Indian head cent, AU 1942-S Jeff nickel (nice album toning), MS 1953-D Jeff nickel.

Sounds like a win/win for both the dealer and you. He gets a customer for life, and you get a good honest dealer to buy your coins from.
