I've been very lucky with my SLQ collection - and since the kids are grown up, I have more money for collecting. I've been trying to move all of my SLQ top set into AU / MS slabbed & graded coins - except my 1916 (found in the wild) which is Fair 2, Damaged Details and my 1918/17-S overdate (VF Details - hole in the face) - I don't think I'll ever be able to afford those in AU or MS. The toughest ones in AU/MS for many collectors, myself included, other than those two, are the very low mintage 1927-S (396,000 - mine is VF 20), 1923-S (1,360,000 - mine is VF30, Details), the 1921 (1,916,000 - I'm upgrading from a VF20 Green CAC bean) and 1919-D (1,944,000 - F12) & 1919-S (1,836,000 - VF20). Everything else is now straight graded AU or MS, with 4 Full Head designations. The lower mintage SLQs after 1925 have the "protected" date from a redesign (rather than the earlier protruding date that wore off and they seem more common & cheaper in higher grades. In any case - I won the auction on this last night for $800 ($960 with Buyers premium), and I'm very excited to get my hands on it. I think it's fairly graded but would welcome any input. Happy Holidays!
Beautiful coin. The problem with it is quite obvious though. The fact that it is heading to you, and not me, is something I don't believe can be fixed on this thread. Enjoy putting that bad boy in your collection and take good care of it. Pride of ownership
That's an absolutely lovely coin, and those hints of iridescence in the toning really put the icing on the cake.
Very nice addition to your set. It looks like it is properly graded to me. I have 3 21's in my sets. One is Ef in my raw capital holder set and the other 2 are PCGS 63FH and a PCGS 64FH in my certified set. It is always nice to see another 21 like yours. Have a great day and Merry Christmas to everybody here.
Didn't President Woodrow Wilson demand that the mint produce attractive coin designs because he was fed up with Barber's designs and that was how we ended up with Mercs, SLQ's and Walking Liberty halves?
President T. Roosevelt was the one and wanted to do it without Congress involved. To keep them from being involved the mint director did it so coins were made for 25 years for the most part avoiding Congressional involvememt.
The only thing wrong with this design is liberty isn't exposed like the 16/17 coins! Too bad they decided to clothe her. That's my only 2 cents! Yes I've been wanting a 21 for a while but can't seem to find one in a price range/condition I like.
