Hello, I have a 2015 penny that seems to have an error on it. Lincoln's tie looks like it is dripping. The "drip" is a bump and not a pit, so I know it's not a scratch.
That's just spilled soup. I'm thinking it's a plating bubble. Welcome to CT, Justin. Keep asking, there a many good people here with many good answers.
Thanks for the humor, and the serious answer. I looked it up, and it says it's not rare, but at least I noticed it. Being observant seems to be important when collecting error coins because you might miss an error if you don't notice it.
You're welcome. The way to go. You are correct. Don't be afraid to ask your questions here. The only stupid questions are those not asked.
@JustinCB Welcome to Cointalk I want to share this website with you so you can see and understand the many different types of error coins .. Enjoy http://www.error-ref.com/
Thank you. I will look at that site. The more you learn, the more you know. Even if it is only interesting and not useful.
I found it on a 2014, 2015, and a 2016 penny: Zoom in. It looks pixelated, but the tie looks doubled, just like the 1984-P doubled die. If you look at http://www.error-ref.com/doubled-dies/ , you will find: Does it look similar, or is it just a plating bubble like rickmp said?
I have never heard of it myself...but if you start your own thread with that in title, you will have greater chance of finding the answer.
I think the "dripping" is probably a redesign of the tie. That area of the coin seems to have had 3 variations over the years.
