Looking through my small collection of what I think are coins with minor errors, I have to ask, are the 2023 Edith Edith Kanakaʻole Quarters with the K A damaged considered a mint error , a die error or part of the design? Lol! I must have about 25 of these examples and wonder if I should stop putting them aside or continue gathering them.

They are small die chips, minor errors. Maybe keep the ones in the best condition.

Keep an eye on the area towards the top underneath the word OF. I've found some nice chips there.

If these were die chips wouldn't there be raised metal on these letters? Since the devices are incuse on the die, a chip (or defect) in this area would cause more metal to fill the area, not less.

Can we see the whole coin please? That's usually the way to present your coin/s. Thanks.
Looks like good ole PMD to me but I'd rather say that it's inconclusive until we see more Pics.

i agree completely Jersey. These errors are always on either the K, KA, or the A and the letters never look filled but mangled, cracked ,or split. I’ll take some pic later but all they will show is the same flaw over and over.

I’ll take some images later as I should have done when posting a question. My bad!
PMD on the same letters on dozens of the same coins seems unlikely to me but that’s why we ask. I’m just surprised more attention hasn’t been mentioned on this? It’s almost as common as finding sand on a beach!

I will. I think the hot item with these Edith qts is finding a clash on the reverse showing the word or parts of the word EDITH in Washington hair.

Looks more like some material (metal shavings?) has imbedded itself in the incuse letters of the die. Once there, hundreds or thousands, or tens of thousands of coins will be struck the same. Perhaps your area banks just happen to get the majority of these strikes. Eventually the material may have fallen out of the die, or the die was replaced, and that is why everyone does not get coins with the "error" you are talking about.

I had noticed a slow down with this error recently then yesterday while doing qts up popped three. Maybe it is just the banks in MA. BTW, your thoughts on this match mine. Thank you

Dan, from what I gather, an easy way to find a clash with this quarter is just look for a line running vertically through the bend in the river next to her name. So far I haven't found any.

It's not just where you're at. I'm in Floriduh and I've found a few like that in the upper left part of the K. I think I found one or two in the A as well. I assumed they were die cracks. I guess I was wrong. Lol

Dan clicking full size photo would definitely help some of us on laptops. These thumbnails
are making my clicker finger hurt. LOL

Sorry about that! Lol. I thought in was proper to use thumbnails instead of large images. I’ll see if I can fix it..

No need to be sorry. Phones you can just expand the image. A laptop you have to click three or four times.
The clash is in the same area as the Kanaka issue. They could be related.
