Any thoughts about this 2009 District of Columbia quarter and the possible error pictured here? It’s not the famous “ELL” error but I do believe it’s worth keeping.

Hi @Dave1965 and welcome to Coin Talk! What are you seeing? Definitely not the ELL doubled die, so I'm not sure what you are seeing. All I see is circulation damage! Please be more precise in your explanation of what you want an opinion on!

The circled area underneath the “ELL”. The back part of the keys are supposed to be a straight line across from left to right……and it’s not.

I see what you're talking about but not sure what caused that. Certainly doesn't look normal. Wait for members with more experience than me to reply!

You could post actual images and maybe get more responses. I'm not clicking on a ibb.co link.

Looks to be a dent in the keys, and too much circ. damage…just a spender, imo. The D.C. Ellington is 2009, pretty worn for only 12 years.

Welcome to CT Dave1965. Sorry but I do not do links. Others do so you will get the best of the best, good luck.

I see two things. Damage on the keys appears to be PMD and there is possible die sinking from the elbow to the bottom of the F# key. Even if it is, it would be die deterioration rather than a die variety.

Moderns have so many new places for damage. Instead of individually made working dies, there are now working hubs to make the working dies and master dies to make the working hubs and master hubs to make the master dies.

Ok ok I believe this has already been addressed. No need to keep repeating it.
