The note is in bad shape but I'm hoping someone can help me understand what this means. this is the first note I've found that this has came upon
It’s the 2013 $1 New York replacement note duplication debacle that’s been on every paper money forum for the last 3 or 4 years.
As someone who doesn't hang out on paper money forums, this was the first time I heard about it. Looks like a few pairs have been matched in the years since, but I haven't see how much the matched pairs go for. I assume it's astronomical.
I looked up the note and the results were the note was printed at Washington and Fort Worth. What does that mean? I thought serial numbers were only printed once. I'm probably wrong about that
Sites that match people holding one of the serial numbers. https://www.papermoneyforum.com/pos...-notes-potentially-enriching-them-by-11981019 https://www.pmgnotes.com/news/article/9321/Duplicate-serial-number-federal-notes-Stacks-bowers/
Now you need to find the same serial number on the other printing. Despite conditions, this is one note to keep.
I submitted my star note. Fingers crossed I get in contact with the duplicate note and the owner is will to sell it to me

They aren't terribly valuable but far better than a dollar. When they were first discovered, there were estimates of as high as $100,000.00 for a pair but the highest sold pair sold for about 7 grand a couple of years ago. Since there have been over 50 known matched pairs and as with anything collectable, the more there are, the less they are worth. I've seen them sell for half as much as the 7 grand the first pair sold for. Again condition is everything. Even a matched pair will fetch more depending on the grade of both notes.
