A coin was obtained from a business in change. The coins is 5.17 grams and has 1979 on obverse 1986P on the other obverse One side is horihorizontal to the other. I cannot possibly see it being real, but I'll be damned if I can see any alteration of the coin. Could it be possible

Most likely fake. They have 2 different dates which means that it could not have been minted that way. Novelty coins are made in a way that it is hard to tell how they were created.

Here is an example of a novelty Nickel.. one side is made so it slides into a shell that was hollowed out.

Yes I understand.. They can make them anyway they want. They are considered 2 headed coins. Again.. Novelty item used for such instances as a coin toss. Heads will always win.

I was thinking it was a fake. I wish my camera was worth a dam so I could upload photos of the coin. If the coin is a fake, it does not show.

yes, its a 2 headed nickel, or magicians coin, if you look closely just inside the rim you should see a seam, two-headed coins are made by hollowing out the center of one coin, leaving the edge and heads side intact, and then shaving down a second coin so that it fits snugly inside the shell of the first.

If it shows to be a fake the flpper will get caught cheating on the coin toss. The one slides completely into the other so no seams show. It's a magicians coin.

with the years so far apart its definitely fake, i have 2 nickels and a quarter and if you look closely you can see a seam..
edit: and if you run it thru the wash, chances are it will come apart.. (as did my other quarter)

Okay, I never thought about concealing one of those in a coin.

In the old days, you could conceal a few pages of information on microfilm.

Today? Thousands of hours of audio, hundreds of hours of video, or maybe a hundred million pages of text.

    Whoa.

Most certainly mint assisted. I get annoyed seeing all the mint assisted "errors"
