I have a potential 1970 D Double die. I'm new to the site and to coin collecting but have spent months getting educated through books and videos.

I found this coin while roll hunting. When I inspected it I saw a raised up part of the "1" in 1970. To me it looked like a die chip but when i looked under a better magnifying glass it looked like two "I"s One stacked on the other. I know the traits of machine doubling are to be flat but this one was not.

There's also some suspected double die on the letters "LIBERTY"

Here are some pictures... Hope the help.

First, welcome to the neighborhood @General Matich !

30? Aren't you kind of young to be a general?

Idhair and Wxcoin - Thank you both for the quick replies and help.

Cpm9ball - Thank you for the welcome, much obliged. General Matich is a nick name that stuck when I was at Oakridge Military Academy when I was 17. I had always planned and vigorously talked about being a General in the Marine Corps. While in basic training an army doctor discovered I had kidney disease which disqualified me from further training, but that never has stopped me from trying. So one day that title will be official.

Welcome to club General Matich. Yes your 1970 D DDO Lincoln cent is a true double die. It is listed by Variety Vista.com as a 1970 D DDO stage B. Dont let people discourage you and not everyone is an expert. It takes a lot of work and reading and checking out pictures to get really good at this stuff. A year ago. I would have said your coin is not a ddo also. Thanks to variety vista and their pictures they post. I have gained in knowledge and experience.

Here is a picture of one of my 1970 d ddo stage b. Hopefully u and others can gain knowledge and experience. So glad there are still others out there who are joining the racks of coin collector's. We need more out there to join and give the art a boost. Keep searching and obviously you have been doing your homework. Good find. Not sure of value due to none being posted as sold through any auction houses. Hopefully soon

Correction. It is actually stage C and not stage B. Like i said. It takes a lot of looking at examples to get to be an expert. I am still trying and one day i hope to be the expert that i am achieving to become. Keep studying and searching.

Your picture of liberty matches stage C. The dates are similar but liberty on stage B is stronger on LIBE and gets weaker on RTY. Have fun and keep searching.

You do realize this thread is 16 months old and the original OP (The General) has not been on here since March 25th of 2017.(FYI)
