What AMPEX did with the 5oz State bullion program is appalling,Hopefully the U.S. mint will take a look at there pricing of the U.S. state quarter bullion that was bought at spot plus I think was a $9.95 premium for each coin and then go ahead and increase there price 90% It's not enough for them to be 1 of 10 distributors of all U.S. bullion and moving a good percentage of the 30 million plus ASE's thru there company that they had to make a minuscule amount of money on the state quarter bullion and really **** off alot of bullion collectors and investors.
I'm actually curious to see how this develops. Yes, agreed pricing way too high. Seems opportunistic at best. Their per oz. margin on a 10oz Morgan silver bar has moved from $1.39 last year to $1.99 in Oct and now is $2.19 (12/3). That's almost a 60% price increase on that product alone. Used to buy a lot from APMEX, but it's becoming increasingly easier to find cheaper alternatives. Wonder how the 5oz. bullion coins will be priced by others.
Gainesville Coin. No pricing listed but you can pre-order: http://www.gainesvillecoins.com/pro...5ozSilverCoin(AmericatheBeautifulSeries).aspx
Really, APMEX is NOT the problem. Exclusivity is. APMEX lists that they sold out 1000 sets in 19 hours, but the Mint release date is officially the 6th of December. When you "selectively channel" the supply of an item, those sellers are aware of their selling position. They charge for it too. However, the two sellers who have pre-sales on EBAY are charging over $1,500 per set, more than double the bullion price. Those sellers also know that they have a conduit, and are free to charge "whatever the market may bear". So long as the government crawls into bed with distributors then we are going to get gouged. The only question remaining then is how much the person making the decision to sell these through sites outside the US Mint got as kickbacks. For sure, this is a corrupt sales regime, and worthy of whatever Congressional investigations are conducted as a result of this injury to those of us who pay BILLIONS of dollars each year to the US Mint, only to have it thrown in our collecting and collective faces, RIGHT AT CHRISTMAS. My advice to everyone is to complain to the Congress and Senate that last year Scrooge ran the US Eagle program, not affording us ONE SINGLE Proof US SILVER EAGLE. This year, yet again, Scrooge has gathered his stingy cronies together and found a way to not only gouge us on US Mint sales prices, but to ensure they and their Grand and Worthy Right Honorable friends get theirs... first. Really? APMEX sells out before the coins are even released? Really, there must be an investigation to uncover Scrooges' New Clothes, because we are paying for them. "Merry Christmas, and up your nose, to you and all of yours!!' Really. I can hear that smug bunch of pirates laughing aloud. Can't all of you? They can keep their five ounce confiscatory devices. In a place the Pirates keep theirs, where the sun does not shine.
I've done business with APMEX for years. Every transaction was satisfactory. I don't care what you say; you sound like a malcontent of minor means.
Do we know for sure what the US Mint sold these to APMEX for? I don't understand the hatred toward APMEX for selling a product that was obviously at a reasonable price because they sold out 1,000 sets in 19 hours! It's simply supply and demand...... I believe they were too highly priced as well, but the mint is to blame for only supplying a few dealers with these and not selling them directly to us. If it is anyone's fault, it is how the fed's sell them, NOT the dealers'........
Apmex Ha ...made my last purchase about two years ago from them I had made several purchases from them. The last order was for some SA 2 Rand gold coins . I got them for a great price but here's what happen next. First of all I always use a credit card it gives you more resorses in case of any trouble. Well Apmex adds on shipping and a fee for using a CC! Then had the nerve to tell me that they would not accept any others orders from me unless it was a cash deal or money transfer. Now they had processed my order and hit me with a huge fee for the CC useage. The order was ready to ship but I e mail them and followed up with a call telling them to put their coins where the sun don't shine! I never in all my years had any credit problems at all...never late or missed a payment . Had a credit score so high a car salesman said to me in all the years he has sold cars he's never seen a score so high! He wanted to sell me two car...LOL Apmex is a joke I have no problem of anyone making a profit on me...I do have a problem with greed ,and a monoploy . I can see a case action suit being over this mess the mint has created....as these are bullion coins. Just my 2 cents Sam
Bullion companies face the same problem ( in far greater numbers) that a person buying a single bullion coin has, and that is ~ how much gain is still coming. They are a business , and if they buy and sell based on anything other than supply and demand, they are doing themselves bad. If their prices are too high, they won't sell much, and if they are not, they will sell to the limits of the demand. To the US and the companies, the product is just a commodity, and is provided as merchandise rather than to satisfy collectors, so no one really cares about the preferences of the end buyer. Buy from who services you the best. Remember someday, you may be looking to sell also. No need to single out a single dealer, as in the long run, their prices will tend to be the same as they are a business.
I'm not sure what "resorses" you mean here, but since you speak of potential trouble, I presume you mean "resorses" that give you methods of dealing with fraud, theft, and overcharges. If that's the case, then you are incorrect. Credit cards offer no more or different avenues of restitution in such situations than debit cards do. Er...yes.. Well, yes. The process costs them money. It's an expense they incur ONLY when offering YOU a method of payment YOU chose because of its convenience to YOU. Why SHOULDN'T they pass that charge on? So they took your order, and then said "We won't take your order?" Er...what? What was this "huge fee" anyway? Have you an exact amount? So, despite you asserting they would NOT take your order, they did...and you PLACED it in light of the charge...and then changed your mind. Gee...One can only wonder why they don't wish to accept payment from you in the form of a method that incurs extra expense. Doesn't sound as though you had any here either...other than your naive expectation that the charges incurred for using credit should be paid by someone other than yourself. Er...I'm confused...what reaction are we supposed to have to the revelation that you love debt? A car salesman that wanted to sell cars? You can't be serious. But not with your own, apparently. Kitco, provident Metals, Mint products, the US Mint...none of these businesses exist? What, exactly, is a 'case action suit"...and why would one be filed...and against whom? ===================== The bulk of you are pretty disgusting, really. Acting as though Apmex "owes" somebody a certain pricing level, or sales structure, because it's just unfair for them to make a huge profit. Give me a break. Their job is to make as much money as they possibly can. They sold 1,000 units in 19 hours...Pretty sure they haven't over estimated the market or priced themselves out of it. They accurately described the products offered, sold them for the price they advertised, and unless we hear otherwise, we presume they'll deliver them in a timely fashion, as they have a reputation of doing. Sorry we can't all afford them. Lots of us can't afford lots of things we want. You'll get over it. Or, you'll get all butt-hurt about it, and run around posting on internet forums about filing case action suits. Either way, pretty sure Apmex isn't all that worried.
You are entilted to your opion and me mine. As for buying them I never considered buying them in the first place.... I rather buy from the Perth mint or the RCM who make a much better products in bullion coins to begin with. The U.S. Mint has had issues with these coin from day one. So there is nothing to get over.....except that if my post upset you that much..... do yourself, and me a favor..... don't read or respond to them. Have a nice day!
So glad to see that I'm not alone in thinking APMEX is making out on Americans hard earned money. Don't be surprised if this gets deleted for admins tend to defend APMEX....
I can see the headlines now - "Americans courts shut down. Too many case action suits filed against greedy people/companies". Although I am curious. Just when did a company trying to make money become a crime?
