Do you pay for boxes.

If you can get boxes of halves from the bank to go through can you get them without getting changed the fee. If so, what banks have you had good luck with avoiding the fee for whole boxes, or have a bank that has a very small fee that doesn't really make much difference in the long run. What I have ran in to is that most banks that will order boxes charge about $7 per box that you want, which would never make it worth it, I have found one that charges $2 a box that is dropping the fee latter in the year once they update their fees for the year. Im able to get them for free most of the time but depending on the teller still get charged the $2 fee on some boxes if im unlucky, would you still stay its worth doing boxes if you will get charged $2 a box on them? I have talked to about 35 different banks about ordering half dollars and only a few order from the fed, so the $2 a box is the best I can come across. Any thoughts on the matter.

Do you have an account with the banks that charge you? My parents have accounts at Chase and i have an account at TD Bank, I usually order from Chase though, so i can dump at TD. If i were charged to look through a box i would have to stop, it's not that profitable.
Its not much in the long run, but i would try to find a bank that does it for free. Or you can open an account at a bank (i think its usually $100 minimum) so you won't get charged

There are some credit unions that provide coin machines to their account holders for free. They usually only require a modest minimum balance.

$2 per box isn't that bad. That is 2/10ths of one cent per coin. When I found my 2001-D Kennedy missing the clad layer in a Mint bag, it cost me 18c over face value per coin. How would you like to pay $180 over face value for that box?

Ace71499 has the best answer. Use Chase. The Chase folks I deal with are GREAT; very helpful; and are pleased to be of service. Also, there are probably several Chase branches in your area, so you can spread out your "returns".

I think any bank will go out of their way to provide the best possible service to their better account-holders. That doesn't mean you have to be super rich, but a 4-figure or 5-figure account(s) balance doesn't hurt. I had been a customer at the same bank for more than 25 years. It had undergone numerous name changes from buy-outs with the most recent being BoA.

For years, I ordered two or more boxes of half dollars every week without a service charge. My bank even gave me boxes of coin wrappers free of charge so I could re-roll them in spite of the fact that their regional repository would re-wrap them in the crimped-edge rolls. Not once did I even have to write my name or account # on any of the rolls.

If you have a Moneytree nearby, take advantage of their interest-free 24 hr. loan.
I get boxes of nics this way. You have to ask for it & they wont take the coins
    back.

I am an account holder at 8 different banks so I can use their machines and services, mainly buying their bags. There is no Chase bank in my town, I have talked to about 45-60 banks about either buying their bank bags or boxes, even if you are a member I have gotten 11 banks that will sell me their bags, but only 3 of them make orders for change because the other roll their own, of the 3 that can order, one is US bank and they change $7.50 per box, the other is a local first national bank and Credit union, one of the credit unions is $2 a box and is changing their fees soon, which they said they are dropping the fee on boxes, so im able to get them for free normally but when the manager is their she still wants to charge the fee, so that's the best I can do for boxes, I have good luck getting the bags out of the coin machines at the other banks though and normally find at least a few dimes, lowest was 2 silver and most was 141 silver in a bag. I do nickels also just for something else to do, but I would like to be able to do half dollars more because they only get a bag or 2 a year at most the banks I go to, and I try to average 6 bags a week combines with Nickels, dimes and halves.

My bank buys boxes for me without charging me a fee, but I don't abuse the privilege. I keep a weekly limit of 1 box halves and 2 boxes of dimes, and that works out just fine.

Two boxes halves, one box nickels, and one box pennies from Umpqua. One box halves from Wells Fargo per week. Never a fee. Deposits made at US. Decent accounts in all three.

I have td and Santander. I have to pay my "monthly maintenance fee" $6.99 but I search for errors and sell them AND keep all my silver. being I make more than what I pay it's worth it for me. Also, my credit union allows me to buy the bags of coins from the coin machine. they don't mind at all because they have to pay to ship. so I am doing them a favor. they are charging you because they have to pay to have them shipped. asking a credit union if you can buy their bags is not the same as you asking them to order you boxes. I go to TD and they allow me to get 1 box a week from that specific bank. if you want 3 or 4 boxes you will have to pay. go to more banks and ask for less. 1 box may not hurt them and you might find you get more

Get a paper round or a gardening job and spend the time earning money. It'l pay more than searching thousands of coins. You can buy better coins with your wages.

I've never been charged a fee for purchase and can return without a fee as well at four banks in town.

I just inquired on another thread about the "charges" for a bank "bag".
If you could what do you pay ???

The bank bags are always free or in some instances they will even pay you to take then, because the bank has to pay Brinks to take the bags away. If you can find a bank to sell you the bags they should be free. Just the face value of the bags.

You all must have a lot of spare time on your hands. I work for a living and use the money I earn to buy what I want. I've recently finished my $2.50 Gold Indian collection. I'm 3 coins away from a complete MS-64 PCGS Peace collection and I need 7 more halves to complete a MS-64 PCGS FBL Franklin set. I couldn't begin to fund myself by roll searching. Let alone the time it takes. Not saying I haven't done it, as I have and had some nice finds. The best was buying a roll of customer rolled dimes and opening the end it my car to find that all 50 dimes were silver. I went back in the bank and they had another roll from the same customer and that was all silver. It takes time and I just don't have any to spare but I still search the pennies.

I work full time most of the year but I work a spit shift so im off from 1 to 4:45 and normally mess with the coins in that time because I don't have anything better to do. I just like doing it for the sake of the hunt, I have found alot but I could easily have gotten all the stuff from a coin store but it just isnt the same.

Banks are businesses, and are not in the business of offering for free services that cost them to provide. Kudos to those doing their homework, but as the old saying goes: if you want to play, sometimes you have to pay.
