Thought I'd share a couple of displays I cobbled together. It's kind of an expansion of the hobby. The first one is all the silver Kennedy halves, no accented hair. It's a CAPS album page trimmed up to fit a picture frame I picked up at the church sale. Once I figure out the exact placement, I'll have CAPS album print up a correctly labeled insert. The second one is just a piece of oak with partial holes drilled with a forstner bit to hold the airtites. Not much of a half dollar type set. But it's a start and it's mine. Thanks for look'n. Brian
Really like the airtites in the oak board. Where does that sit, just on a desk or something? Or does it hang on you wall?
I use "Caps" pages for my Canadian toned 25 cents and 50 cents airtite collection. I just ordered 1 more "Caps" page for my random toned Canadian cents and dimes. these next 2 pics are way out of focus but show you some of my toned Canadian collection.
When I saw the picture frame at the church rummage sale, looked to be about the right size(heck it was only fifty cents). It turned out to be the perfect width but about half an inch taller(better than a half inch too short). So I used a couple of pieces of black foam board to fill the gaps at the top and bottom.
The first one I made from walnut, but the dark wood made the coins look "darker". The lighter color oak looked better. I beveled the bottom of the board and added a small angled piece on the back. I have a small built in book shelves where it sits. It could be made to hang on a wall, a rainy day project perhaps.
I like these a lot. Storing coins in wood always makes me nervous, but the Air-Tites should protect them quite a bit.
That was my thought also, that they should be ok in the air-tites not directly contacting the wood. In the past I've made single stands for ASEs and such in air-tites and they all seem fine.
