This will enlarge for better viewing and I do see a die chip. A keeper but NAV, at least not when it's this small.
So what I would like to know is, could this be the first stage of a progressive variety? Could this tiny defect become part of an error series one day?
It could be progressive but you won't know unless you find more of the same. And it all depends on when and if this problem with the die was caught by quality control or the machine operator.
Very cool I think. I have a progressive series of die cracks I found in a mint roll of 2009 presidentials. I think it's under appreciated.
Yes, it can be an interesting & fun sideline. I collected the stages of the reverse die chips on the Homestead quarters. Ended up with close to a hundred different as I recall with over 500 coins total. They are buried here somewhere. It was a lot of work and searching. I'm not so sure I would start another series though.
Wow . Just something like a story of machining pressed permanently into coin currency. I think it's pretty neat.
