My last purchase (Dec. 24th) was shipped on the 26th from Spain and is supposed to arrive here in Northern California by end of biz Friday. Does anyone have any experiences to share on DHL or other couriers instead of the regular mails? To me getting a coin in three days seems pretty quick.

One of the overseas auction houses that I work with uses them. Not as regular as Fedex but reliable and good communication with the company. I do suggest before you expect the package, track it. Things can be delayed a day or two with customs and DHL but they always get it to you (In My experience ).

My dad used to run a DHL hub here in Colorado before they downsized out of the United States. Problem is that they are a German based company and they couldnt own their own planes since they were foreign based so they had to sub contract flying freight through Fed Ex or something. They just couldnt compete in the US beacuse of those regulations. Outside of the US I think they are still the largest freight carrier in the World.

I have tracked it and it seems to be on schedule. Passed from Madrid to Brussels to East Midlands (in the UK)...which is where the parcel is currently.

I used to work at the UPS headquarters in Atlanta as product manager for Worldwide Express, and DHL offered pretty tough competition - more experience, brand name recognition overseas and so on. First time I've ever received a package through them though.

A decent company. Limited in the US due to restrictions. They can't compete with UPS and Fed-X.

  8. 2 business days and 2 weekend days from London to a rural town in Utah. They have amazing speed. My only gripe is that they left a $4000 package at my front door. It did have signature confirmation. I guess "LEFT LTR BOX" signed for it. That was nice of him. Luckily for me, we have a low number of porch pirates during the holidays.

Yeah they are the biggest internationally but cant compete in the US because of restrictions implemented on foreign planes since 9/11.

I had to return a computer 15 years ago( desktop after I shelled out a fortune for it) I was waiting all day for DHL to drop the replacement off from Compaq. They were so lazy they didn't even knock on my door to see if I was home- ( i was waiting in the living room for hours) then they snuck up to my door and they just put one of those first attempt stickers and drove off. like a thief in the night- SO QUIET! I will never use DHL again.

I had a DHL express delivery a couple months ago ... I believe it was N&N that sent it. Surprisingly, a yellow and red DHL van came to my house and delivered it. I had never seen that before. Previously DHL handed over their packages to USPS for delivery in the US, that doesn't seem to be the case now.

NB: It arrived in 3 days from Austria.

That's good, I normally get phone updates and my last shipment from them was delayed and the text did not catch it but I saw on the computer it was still in Spain, I called and they apologized and said it would be delivered on Monday, I had no problem because that was still quick compared to other companies. Btw, they do not deliver on weekends.
