Any idea of the current value of West Point Quarters in AU condition? I was fortunate to pluck four rolls of 2020 American Samoa W quarters in June of 2020 from two $500 boxes. They are at least in AU condition. If the price is right from my local coin dealer I might sell a roll or two. I see EBay recently showed a sale of $600 ($15 a coin). That is probably not realistic from a coin dealer but at least that sounds like a good starting point to begin the haggle process. Thoughts?
ten bucks average but if you find gem examples in circulation $20 is possible but really the maximum, they were selling for $30-$40 each when released.
Thanks for all of the responses. To update everyone on this topic, my efforts to sell these quarters were futile. I reside in the panhandle of Florida and apparently coin dealers here have no clue on the value of West Point quarters. One dealer I visited would not even view my AU or better collection. The dealer stated that they have never received an inquiry for these coins. The second dealer canvassed stated he would be willing to buy “just a few” but indicated also that he sees very little demand for these quarters. Looks like I have to put my collection back in the closest for the time being. Perhaps a trip to a more populated area will prove more successful!
Why not? Nothing wrong with saving money! Been telling my wife that for years but she just gives me “the look” these days… In all seriousness, the West Point quarters was one of the better ideas put forth by the US mint. Sadly, I am afraid they had already sullied the collector market. Back when the state quarters came out, it was exciting. A whole new generation of coin collectors were born. But that wasn’t enough. They continued with quarter designs, a myriad of commemoratives…. On and on. The excitement turned to weariness among the true blue coin collectors and by the time they issued the West Point quarters, it was just another mint gimmick….. It’s too bad because it was a well thought out scheme….. But I do think there will be future serious interest in them. Tucking them away for now is likely your best bet.
