Do people prefer Cowen's or HECO? I have used Cowen's and have not had an issue, but has anyone tried both/HECO? Thanks.

I’ll bump this, because I’m about to buy another bunch myself and don’t know the answer. In the past when I’ve ordered quantities of a specific brand, the suppliers (two different ones, well known here) felt free to make up my order by mixing obviously different brands. As a result I can’t even tell which are Cowen’s and which are the others.

I am pretty sure it’s the “dust-free” ones that have the most dust.

Well, I am hemming between getting either the Cowen mylars or the HECO mylars. HECOs as I understand it are thinner, which might not necessarily be a good thing as perhaps it will cause the coins to collide in storage more (if you box them and what not). But maybe there is very little difference. The HECOs will cost me around $0.50 USD more for 100 flips than the Cowen's, but that's a minor issue AFAIAC.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

I always prefer Cowens, because the cardboard is thicker. It provides more protection for the coin.

HECO are thinner, which is good if you're trying to fit more in a box.

Whenever I buy coins in 2x2s, I always open them up, rinse them in acetone, squirt some compressed air to remove any dust or lint, and re-holder them in Cowens 2x2s.

I always clean the insides of my 2x2s, but I don't use acetone. I've considered using compressed air to prep them though. Just never have. Usually just wipe them.

Oh, sorry, I wasn't clear. I rinse the coin in acetone.

If you put acetone on plastic, the plastic (mylar) will dissolve.... I use the air on the 2x2 and on the coin after it is dry.

Yeah I get that, but it probably makes no sense to put anything (outside of maybe a quick swipe of a brush or cleaning towel (or some compressed air) on it to begin with. =)

Some places sell “Canadian manufactured” 2x2s. Anybody know if those are Cowen’s or HECO or something else?

Yes, I think HECO is based in Canada. It's probably them.

I use Cowens for the very same reason.

Hrm. Perhaps I should stick with Cowens then. I think I used HECOs or something similar ages ago, when I started collecting initially when I was a kid in the 80s. I've used Cowens for the most part for inexpensive coins for as long as I can recall. I guess "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? Thanks everyone.

I've also used cheap 2x2s but found out I liked Cowens better and felt it was worth paying extra. Go ahead and try both if you can. I probably should have stated that I never used HECO, so I have no idea if they are acceptable or not.
