I was browsing YouTube today and one of the channels I follow was showing off one of these cool silver bells.

Normally I’m against damaging or altering coins in any way but I figure there are so many 1921 Morgan Dollars and JFK Halves and stuff like that out there that it doesn’t really change anything in terms of supply or price of these coins.

I think it’s so cool that someone thought of the brilliant idea to turn silver coins into a bell.

The reason I think it’s so cool is because the coins have 90% silver in them so the bell has that beautiful ring we all know and love that comes when two pieces of high fineness silver make contact with each other.

Im not selling or advertising these I just thought it was a cool idea and wanted to share :).

The one in the pictures I’m sharing is made with JFK Halves but they also make them of Morgan Dollars, Peace Dollars and other silver coinage.

    What do you think?

I'm also one for not damaging coins. However, like Daniel Carrs work, I can appreciate creativity and craftsmanship. Both of which are represented in this silver bell.

Cool idea and they're neat, but I do have some reservation.

I just think the sound of silver on silver is so beautiful that it was very creative to use that by making a bell out of common silver coins.

If they were doing it with 1893 S Morgan Dollars or other coins with more numismatic value than intrinsic value I would be disgusted but things like 1964 JFK Halves don’t really bother me since you can buy them in BU condition by the roll pretty easily.

If I found the whole idea abhorrent I'd be very clear about it. Like I said, I have reservations but they're beautiful pieces of craftsmanship. If I were gifted one I wouldn't dispose of it. Would I personally buy one? The jury is deliberating on that one. If the price was stupid good I might pull the trigger.

Again, not repulsed by the novelty of it.

Oh yeah I know what you mean.

I would definitely buy one for spot + a small commission for the work but I wouldn’t pay too much for it.

A 90% JFK half dollar has about $8 in silver so I might pay $15 for the bell but that’s probably about it.

I really like the bigger ones made out of 1921 Morgan Dollars and 1922 Peace Dollars.

Blake sent me the link. These are about the size of charms for
a ladies bracelet. Many to choose from. Also had wearable rings.

I couldn't imagine they were any bigger than a charm. I mean they're working with a small palette to begin with. In the pix above they appear to be soldering two coins together. The distortion to the coins devices actually seems minimal, as far as legibility is concerned. In other words they don't seem to be stretching it larger. Therefore they can't be any bigger than the diameter of one coin.

That's why I like the ones made out of 90% silver $1 coins because they are bigger and so the bell is bigger.

I was just fooled by the size of the bell in the OP.
    Optical illusion.

I guess it's alright if you want a tiny bell a$$ but I'd rather have the coin! Very creative though! :D

That's why the Peace & Morgan dollar coins are better xD.
    They're bigger.

I think I'd want 1 bell just for fun and then the rest as actual coins.

In all honestly assuming it was just a run of the mil 69 and not a very high grade, I'd rather have the bell from an artistic standpoint.

Nice work on the bell. That took some time. The loss of a few coins does not bother me at all.

I don't see any problem with someone doing this. It's kind of neat. I'm sure these are all common junk coins. I'd expect these are made out of extra fine to low unc grade coins. Someone is very skilled to do this. Also I'd like to point out that something like this might just entice someone to look at the coins these were made from. Anything that draws interest in coins is a good thing.
